Hans Christian Anderson is a movie that will stand for all times. The songs and the storytelling, done by Danny Kaye, stimulates one's imagination to actually think that you are listening to the great storytell himself. You can see in your mind the characters of his stories come to life. You can see little Thumbelina dancing and the emperor marching down the streets of his kingdom in his all together. This is one film that parents can sit down with their children and rember the sories of their youth. This is a must see movie!

I confess I truly like Danny Kaye's performance and the always exceptional songs and lyrics by Frank Loesser (as clearly evident in his musicals "Most Happy Fella" and "Guys and Dolls"). But I now only watch the first half, and the very end, of this movie, with a particular affection for the song "Inchworm." After the first total viewing, I now tend to skip the ballet portions and 'Hans' doomed love portions, which seem both out of context with this essentially "happy" childrens story, and the ballet itself and story that now seems sadly 'dated.'

It's a wonderful family movie. I watched it growing up and still remember 2 and 2 are 4 4and 4 are 8 etc. I have 2 small children my 18 month old watches it everynight. And my 3 year old has become mesmorized by it. It's a movie that is great and entertaining for all ages. It also teaches wonderful family values, and it's ok to use your imagination. I would recommend this movie to everyone.

I chose this because I remembered it as a child, but enjoyed it just as much now as an adult. The story is good and the characters well played for the time it was made. Many will recognise many of the songs which have become classics themselves. Playfully entertaining, yet informative regarding a small part of the great storyteller's life. I recommend it for young and old alike.
