Her hair fell in knotted tangles to the floor. Snip. Snip. Snip. Just moments later, the scissors joined the blond locks on the ground with a thud. Each golden strand caught in the late afternoon sunlight. She stared at her hair. It was her treasure. It was her life. But after leaving to live here, it had to go. Now, it stopped just past her shoulders in uneven chunks, waiting for the bottle of brown dye to taint them. She stared at the dark liquid with disgust; there was no reason she had to do this. Just because she saw what he did, did not mean she had to change her everything. And the police, they claimed it was for the better and that she would like her new home. But already she did not. She knew that it would be horrible with her new parents in the new town in which the name she did not yet know. For her "safety." The girl sighed and shook her head, letting her neck crane forward over the sink. The dye leaked over her hair and onto her pale, smooth face. A face her deceased mother said was like a baby's.
