Overview

This novella protrays the life, hope and faith of kind, gentle, timid and humble Bob Cratchit and his family as the author believes Charles Dickens would have done if he had fully developed those charcters in his novella, A Christmas Carol. It contrasts the lives of the loving, but poor, Cratchit family with that of the prosperous, yet unhappy Scrooge.
The story depicts Bob Cratchit and his family, especially Tiny Tim, as they celebrate two of their traditional Christmases, one the year before Scrooge had his apparitions and the second during the Christmas when he had his life changing experience. It concludes with Scrooge's refound salvation and changed nature, the success of Master Peter when he took charge of the counting house after Scrooge's retirement and the recovery of Tiny Tim from his affliction.
In keeping with Dickens' tale, it was necessary for the author to take excerpts, both exactly and with changed wording to keep the context of the Cratchit story in character with A Christmas Carol. The goal was to keep the Cratchit characters true to Dickens' intent and to preserve the character of Scrooge before his salvation.
