Short story. Young singer Kattanan duRhys, traded to a mysterious warlord, lives in an island palace made of shipwrecks. When a delegation from his homeland comes to demand an end to piracy, he must decide between serving his new master, and aiding the strangers who remind him of home. His master reveals a new sorcery, but the song Kattanan chooses may cost him his life.

Elaine Isaak is the author of The Singer's Crown series of traditional fantasy novels and the epic fantasy novella series, "Tales of Bladesend". Her short fiction has appeared in anthologies like: Flush Fiction (from Uncle John's Bathroom Reader), Live Free or Undead and Escape Clauses. A graduate of the Odyssey Speculative Fiction Workshop, Elaine has written how-to articles for the Writer Magazine, and authored the Lady Blade fantasy writing column at AlienSkin magazine for three years.Her speaking engagements have included local chapters of Romance Writers of America, World Science Fiction and World Fantasy conventions, and the Odyssey Writing Workshop. Her most famous talk is entitled "Ten Mistakes I've Made in My Writing Career so that You Don't Have to."When she is not writing, Elaine works part-time as a rock climbing instructor and adventure camp leader. Elaine's hobbies include exotic cooking and taiko (Japanese-style drumming). She lives in New England with two children, two parents, two cats, and one very supportive spouse (who still does NOT want to be her hero).
