The newest novel by the author of Akata Witch and the forthcoming Marvel comic book series about Shuri, Black Panther's sister!

“The most imaginative, gripping, enchanting fantasy novels I have ever read!” —Laurie Halse Anderson, New York Times bestselling author of Speak

A year ago, Sunny Nwazue, an American-born girl Nigerian girl, was inducted into the secret Leopard Society. As she began to develop her magical powers, Sunny learned that she had been chosen to lead a dangerous mission to avert an apocalypse, brought about by the terrifying masquerade, Ekwensu. Now, stronger, feistier, and a bit older, Sunny is studying with her mentor Sugar Cream and struggling to unlock the secrets in her strange Nsibidi book.

Eventually, Sunny knows she must confront her destiny. With the support of her Leopard Society friends, Orlu, Chichi, and Sasha, and of her spirit face, Anyanwu, she will travel through worlds both visible and invisible to the mysteries town of Osisi, where she will fight a climactic battle to save humanity.

Much-honored Nnedi Okorafor, winner of the Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy awards, merges today’s Nigeria with a unique world she creates. Akata Warrior blends mythology, fantasy, history and magic into a compelling tale that will keep readers spellbound.

Beautiful writing! Loved every part. I would love to be more descriptive but I literally just finished reading and I'm still in awe. My new favorite author. You have to read it to understand. Start with Akata Witch first.

I don’t think I will ever be able to write something so enchanting! I think about this wonderful universe everyday, I am so in love. As a Mexican American woman, I have never read such a unique, rich, and different story that truly resonated with how I see this world. Thank you so much for that.

I like this continuation of "Akata Witch"; Sunny is older, smarter, and better at handling the demands of her new life, she's reached a new stasis in her relationship with her family...what can possibly go wrong? The growth of the characters through Sunny's eyes is really interesting and helpful to propel the plot forward. On the other hand, the dialogue is a bit chunky at times and the realizations that Sunny makes seem abrupt, like a piece of the journey has been cut out. Overall, love the characters and the lore.

What a delight it is to enter this enchanting world again! AKATA WARRIOR and it's predecessor are truly the most magical and immersive middle grade novels I've had the pleasure of reading since the HARRY POTTER series. In this highly anticipated sequel to AKATA WITCH Sunny Nwazue and her friends are back and causing more trouble in the Leopard Society than ever before as they try to save the world from imminent doom. The stakes are higher than ever, and as the title suggests, readers can expect even more action and adventure in this one. I absolutely adore the cast of characters that Okorafor has put together in this series. Every one of them is so dynamic, interesting, and wonderfully quirky. Their dialogue throughout the novel is fun, funny, and feels so authentically middle grade. AKATA WITCH was all about introducing Sunny to the fascinating Leopard Society, and in AKATA WARRIOR we really get to explore more of that world and it's magic system. Okorafor's attention to detail is mind blowing, and those fun little details really breathe life into world, making it entirely immersive and so much for to delve into. I said this in my review of AKATA WITCH, but it bears repeating that I adore the way Okorafor took traits that would be considered physical oddities in our world and turned them into something that would give these children special abilities in the Leopard world. For example, Sunny is albino, which causes her to made fun of and ridiculed by her peers and others in the human world, but gives her a very special and powerful gift in the Leopard world. There are so many important themes in these books, but for me, that right there is why these books need to be required reading in schools. Okorafor's prose is stunning, and the language she uses adds this fantastical sense of whimsy to the story, which makes this book so much fun for readers of any age. AKATA WARRIOR is truly a special and exceptional novel. I highly recommend these books to everyone and sincerely hope we'll get to see more of Sunny and her adventures in the future. *I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.*
