This story takes place in the mid-sixteen-hundreds, when pirates ruled the seas. Four are stranded on an island, left by their crew and hunted by the British navy. But they may be in for a suprise when they find out what their old crew members have been up to... <br> ("BLACK TIDES" features explicit language and graphic scenes that may be inappropriate for young readers.)
This is the second Lewis Cole mystery. The characters are interesting and varied. The "required" sidekick is an underworld figure. The location is interesting, the writing is wonderful and the descriptions are well done. Set in New Hampshire beach town, the stories (I'm reading through the series and this is the third one I've read) are interesting and varied. My first requirement is always characters who are true to life and interesting. They are people Dubois makes me care about. These are books I will reread.
