Overview

With his rugged cowboy looks, Trey Calder could have his pick of women. But he’s been holding out for someone special, and the minute he lays eyes on photographer Sloan Davis, he knows he’s found her. Within weeks the two are married. It’s a dream come true for the orphaned Sloan . . . until Trey makes a startling discovery about just who Sloan is.

Passion turns into suspicion and a dangerous game is set in motion, putting everything the Calders have worked for over the generations on the line. A formidable enemy has been lying in wait. Someone who will use whatever means necessary to control their land, their lives, and their legacy. Trey Calder has been trained to take over his family’s ranch, to protect what is theirs. Now the time has come for a Calder son to make a stand and hope that his way is the right way . . .

In Montana, Trey Calder, heir to the Calder Cattle Company and its vast Triple C Ranch, meets photographer Sloan Davis at the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale known locally as the ¿Cowboys Mardi Gras¿. The pair is attracted immediately to one another and sees each other even after everyone has left Miles City for their homes. After a short courtship and a warm welcome to the family-less newcomer, they both know they are in love and marry.------------- Paradise collapses shortly after Sloan learns she is pregnant as each soon finds a reason to distrust the other. Trey has found about a secret that Sloan kept from him about her past, a link to Fort Worth¿s Maresco CEO, Max Rutledge, who blames the Calders for the death of his son. Sloan begins to hear that Trey is having an affair, drug trafficking, and the family plans to bury her reputation with dirt including some that is made up if they fail to uncover enough to do a real nasty spin.----------------- Though a bit slow paced, the latest Calder saga tale grips fans of the series due to the heat, passion, and anger between the fifth generation and the outsider orphan. Rutledge provides a powerful realistic threat as he gradually spreads his venom while the support cast, mostly family members and of course the Big Sky Country, add depth to the best entry in several years.----------- Harriet Klausner

This is one of my favorite newer versions of the Calder family saga. It keeps you interested in what will happen next and ends in the only type of ending it could have. I have read this book many times and never get tired of it. A GOOD READ

Benteen and Lorna had Webb in 1878 / 1879, Webb was 30+ when Benteen died. You give the impressions that Webb and Lillie had Chase in the early 1900s, and he is still around. This books gives the impression that it is up-to-date. And you don't ever write about of Lorna, who helped develop the CCC when you write of the granddaughters, Kathleen and Laura. What gives??? Don't miss understand me, I LOVE the Calder series, but you killed off the former monarchs of the CCC except Chase in the next book. When he was beatup and left for dead he had to be nearly 70, but yet here he is still going in this 9th book of the series. Keep them coming, but Chase should be dead by now. Ever so often I go back and find my Calder series and start over. A dedicated reader.

i like the story of logan and cat, but cannot stand how the author is taking the rest of the family. what a completely uninteresting story. i found myself annoyed by what the characters are doing. i know it's fiction but come on. i shouldn't be annoyed by these characters that i'm supposed to be liking and relating to. the end was especially ridiculous. the family treats sloan like crap, then in the end, trey and sloan are back together without talking any thing over. at all. how completely ridiculous. books like this give romance a bad name.
