Overview

Zoe struggles with a secret as the Zimmerman clan sets out for a week of fun in the sun at Camp Carter, where they find the cook dead in the pantry on the very first day of their family vacation. Not only was Zoe the only person other than the victim in a blocked room, but when the police arrive she is standing over the body with a bloody knife in her hand. Zoe sets out to find the real killer with Zak's help. At first it seems like an easy task since the number of people at the camp at the time of the cooks death was limited, but as Zoe begins to dig deeper, she finds a history of unexplained accidents dating back years, that she begins to suspect weren't accidents at all.

I really enjoyed this book as I do the series. When Zoe discovers a body at the Camp that she and Zak are vacationing at with their family, the vacation turns into a search for a murderer with a tie into past murders. I love the characters in this book. Zoe is a strong woman and Zak supports her in any way he can. The mystery was excellent, it kept me guessing and I narrowed it down along with Zoe, although I was a bit surprised in the end. I will definitely continue on with series.

Camp Carter is a really fun read! The book is taking place at a camp where Zoe and Zak are helping to chaperone the kids. Their wards, Alex and Scooter are enjoying the camp along with another hundred or so kids, when Zoe literally stumbles across a dead body. It isn't long before they realize that this isn't the first dead body the camp has hosted, and Zoe and Zak are soon up to their eyeballs in mysterious happenings and impending danger. If, like me, you love Zoe and Zak and a super fun mystery, you won't want to miss this one.

Despite feeling a bit queasy in her first few weeks of pregnancy, Zoe Harlow Donovan Zimmerman and husband Zak agree to chaperone their two twelve year old semi-adopted children on a long weekend summer camp with about a hundred other children of the same age. The other chaperones included ten hired counselors, both male and female, and other support staff. Being the dedicated parents Zoe and Zak are, despite not having any biological children of their own and in fact still being newly-weds, they are among the first to arrive and be put to work getting the camp organized. Zak and another parent take a few kids on a hike to keep them occupied until all is in order and the other campers arrive. That leaves Zoe alone to do what she does best - walk right in on trouble. Finding the camp cook stabbed and bleeding out in the kitchen pantry does not bode well for a relaxing weekend. As in other places this couple has visited, they get to know the local law enforcement officers quite well. The theme of the book is twofold - find the murderer while keeping Zoe and baby Catherine safe, and appreciating family, regardless of how they enter your life and at what stage your relationship is. Zoe and Zak have a full house at home while the boathouse is being remodeled. It still feels better when Pi is able to come home for a summer stay and her parents and baby sister come visit. While you can enjoy the books in this series as stand alone, it has been a pleasure watching Zoe mature and seeing her relationship with Zak and her best friends develop and change. The characters are what drive this series, yet author Kathi Daley keeps each book fresh with new locations and intriguing puzzles for Zoe and the readers to solve.

Camp Carter is number 25 in the Zoe Donovan Mystery Book Series and as great as all the rest. It is such a creative feat to run a series for 25 books and they only get better. May this series never end. Zoe - the main character starts this book with a secret - or so she thinks. It is not secret that Zoe is expecting because her close family and friends have guessed! She and Zak are off to help with a week long camp with the two teens that live with them. Although Zoe is fighting morning sickness, she finds herself discovering the body of the camp cook that has been murdered. And she is a suspect. Involved again and trying to hold back because Zoe s pregnant and they do not know the sherif. But they soon find out there have been previous murders in the past - 2 years apart. Many suspects and and then another murder. Zoe does end up involved. You take it from here - great read and plan on not going to bed til it is done!

Zoe and Zak are off to help at a camp that Scooter's 6th grade class has been invited to. While everyone that has arrived is off hiking Zoe stays back because she isn't feeling well and is concerned about the secret she has been keeping from Zak. Hoping that she can find something in the camp kitchen to settle her stomach Zoe comes across a dead body instead of the crackers that she was looking for. Having been found with blood on her clothing and holding the murder weapon Zoe worries that she will be the only suspect in the killing. Zoe knows her and Zak will have to find the killer so that she can clear her name and keep everyone else safe. How hard could it be, the camp isn't open yet and there are a limited amount of suspects. Easy right? Follow along as Kathi takes you on an emotional ride into finding out just whodunit.

Camp Carter is the 25th book in Zoe Donovan Mystery Book Series by USA Today Bestselling Author Kathi Daley. If you are looking for a summer break themed cozy mystery with a clean dash of romance this book sure won't disappoint! Zak and Zoe will be chaperones for Scooter’s end-of-school-year campout at Camp Carter, a wilderness camp in the country. Zoe is not enthused and has her mind reeling with other thoughts Scooter and Alex, Zak and Zoe’s foster children, are thrilled. Zoe hasn’t been feeling well and goes on a hunt for some saltine crackers and soda. That search is unsuccessful, but in the process, Zoe literally falls upon a murder victim in the camp kitchen pantry. Betty Potter the camp cook had placed a 911 call. The police find Zoe standing over the body with a bloody knife in her hand. With the blessing of the local police, Zak and Zoe are determined to find the real killer. Unbeknownst to them, that search is quickly expanded to seeking the truth in multiple previous deaths, presumed accidental, now declared murder. As Zoe unravels the truth she puts her life and that of her unborn baby in danger. I loved the way Zoe came to terms with her pregnancy and sharing that news with family and friends. I can picture her 3-year-old sister, Harper, equating babies and puppies! Accomplished author Kathi Daley delivers everything a cozy mystery reader hopes for in exceptional book: realistic characters, strong family, friendship and community values, believable tightly woven plot with unexpected twists and turns, and an excellent story with an unexpected ending and delicious recipes! This captivating book will have readers turning pages late into the night. I wish I had some of Zoe’s chocolates to enjoy while reading this book! Highly recommended Camp Carter to anyone craving a summer themed cozy mystery.

Awesome Series This series gets better with each book I read! Camp Carter is the latest installment in Kathi Daley’s awesome Zoe Donovan Cozy Mystery series. I love Ms. Daley’s writing style; there is always a strong message of friendship, family, and the value of community, all while incorporating intriguing mysteries and a touch of romance which doesn’t include any gratuitous sex, violence, or adult language. The writing flows smoothly and the characters are well developed and affable. The murder mystery in this book is intriguing and there are lots of twists and turns. I was quite surprised by the reveal. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy a well-crafted cozy mystery. Zak signed Zoe and himself up to act as chaperones for Scooter’s end-of-school-year campout at Camp Carter, which is a wilderness camp about sixty miles from Ashton Falls. Zoe isn’t looking forward to the outing, but Scooter and Alex are excited. Zoe isn’t feeling well and decides to see if she can find some saltine crackers and club soda in the camp’s rustic kitchen. Her search isn’t successful, but, in true Zoe form, she stumbles upon a murder victim in the pantry. The victim, Betty Potter, has been the camp’s cook for twelve years, and she managed to place a 911 call. When the police arrive, Zoe immediately becomes their prime suspect because they find her standing over the body, with a bloody knife in her hand. The local authorities call Sheriff Salinger in Ashton Falls and he vouches for her and tells them how helpful Zoe is in his investigations. Zak helps Zoe try to find the real killer, but as they dig deeper, she finds a pattern in what appear to be accidental deaths over the years and suspects they were murders rather than accidents.
