But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. About the Author

Roald Dahl (1916-1990) was born in Wales of Norwegian parents. He spent his childhood in England and, at age eighteen, went to work for the Shell Oil Company in Africa. When World War II broke out, he joined the Royal Air Force and became a fighter pilot. At the age of twenty-six he moved to Washington, D.C., and it was there he began to write. His first short story, which recounted his adventures in the war, was bought by The Saturday Evening Post, and so began a long and illustrious career.

After establishing himself as a writer for adults, Roald Dahl began writing children’s stories in 1960 while living in England with his family. His first stories were written as entertainment for his own children, to whom many of his books are dedicated.

Roald Dahl is now considered one of the most beloved storytellers of our time. Although he passed away in 1990, his popularity continues to increase as his fantastic novels, including James and the Giant PeachMatildaThe BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, delight an ever-growing legion of fans.

I read this book for the first time in my life to my three year old boy. We both looked forward to our nightly chapter reading. Other than a few words in the text that are not appropriate for a three year old (easily replaced during aloud reading), the content was absorbing and entertaining. I would recommend this to anyone - parent, child or bachelor.

This book was about a boy named Charlie who loves chocolate. He meets the owner of a chocolate factory, Mr. Willy Wonka. My favorite characters in this book were the Oompa-Loompas. They sing a lot. I liked it because it was funny and the Oompa-Loompas sing. You should read this because it is
better than T.V.

A boy who went to the biggest chocolate factory in the world and he met a famous person. My favorite character in this book were the Oompa-Loompas because they started to sing a couple of times. I liked this book because it has a lot of funny stuff in it like Augustus going up the pipe. You should read this book because it is interesting like Charlie finding a coin to buy a couple of chocolate bars.

This book was awesome. After seeing both of the movies, then reading the first book I am beginning to understand the storyline a little bit better. At first when I saw the movie i didn't understand the meaning behind the story.

I LOVE this book. It transforms your seemingly impossible dream into a book. Buy the book and the only thing you will regret is the picture on the front cover. : )

This book was about Charlie Bucket and four kids competing to win the Chocolate Factory. [The five kids did not know they where competing.] And Charlie won. My favorite character was Augustus Gloop because he fell in a river and got sucked up a pipe then got stuck. I liked this book because it was very exciting. It is exciting because you never know what is going to happen next because there is always something happening to the characters. You should read this book because it is very well written.

I saw the movie. It was cool! And this is what I don't get: What freaks you out about the cover? Is it the factory? Is it the characters? Is it the way it's drawn?? Other than that, it was amazing!!! :)

When Willie Wonka announces that he's hidden 5 golden tickets to his fantasticly famous, but very mysterious, chocolate factory, Charlie Bucket wishes more than anything that he could be one of the lucky 5 winners. But Charlie is very poor and can not afford to buy any of the chocolate bars that conceal the tickets. Luck knocks unexpectedly, though, and he's up for the adventure of a life-time with 4 other kids - each of whom has at least one huge personality flaw. Violet Beauregarde is uber-competitive and has a nasty chewing-gum habit, Veruca Salt is spoiled rotten, Mike Teavee is a know-it-all who watches too much TV, and Augustus Gloop is grossly overweight and incredibly greedy. As the eccentric Willie Wonka takes the kids on a wild tour of his factory, each of the kids suffers dire consequences of their flaws.  This is my FAVORITE Roald Dahl book. Hilarious and fun - and it has a classic movie that makes me even fonder of it. :) I really enjoyed listening to Idle's fantastic narration of the story - though I wish he'd sung the Oompa Loompa songs instead of just reading them. But no one's perfect. :) I think I enjoyed this book just as much as an adult as I had as a child.

Well this book is not my favorite book but it might be for. It’s about 5 kids finding golden tickets. When they all find one they get to go inside the factory. The good kid gets to keep the factory. Mike Tee Vee is my favorite kid.

I love this book. In this story, there is a young boy. His name is Charlie Bucket. He and 6 adults live in a beat up old house. He and 4 other people win a chance to see the chocolate factory. One of the kids gets a chance to win the factory. You get to read about Willy Wonka’s special factory.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a really good book. My favorite person is Charlie because he is nice and caring to people. Charlie’s family lives in a old house. All the other children are brats and they are richer than Charlie’s family. Five children will find the golden tickets to go to the chocolate factory .
