"Two epic people, love, hackers, and explosions lead to an amazing read." -- Not So Public Library

Alone and on the run, Cipher doesn't talk about her secrets, her powers, or the people chasing her. She can’t let anyone get that close. At least, she shouldn’t.

Knight is working undercover for the bad guys. He’s done things that have marked his soul, but it’ll all be worth it if he can save the girl who means everything to him—the girl who saved his life by putting herself in danger. It’s been twelve years, but Knight knows she’s still alive, and he’s made it his mission to find her and keep her safe.

When Knight finally catches up to Cipher, electricity sparks. He’s crazy gorgeous, stupid brilliant, and begging to lift the burden from Cipher’s shoulders. Can she really trust him with her secrets? With her life?

She doesn’t have long to decide, because Knight isn’t the only who’s been looking for her. Now Cipher can’t run without leaving him behind. What good is being together if they’re both dead?

To save Knight, Cipher will finally stop running…one way or another.

About the Author

USA Today bestselling author Aileen Erin is half-Irish, half-Mexican, and 100% nerd—from Star Wars (prequels don’t count) to Star Trek (TNG FTW). She geeks out on Tolkien's linguistics, and has a severe fascination with the supernatural. Aileen has a BS in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University. She lives with her husband and daughter in Los Angeles, and spends her days doing her favorite things: reading books, creating worlds, and kicking ass.

Aileen is excited for two new releases in her four-part YA space opera series Aunare Chronicles in 2020, starting with Off Balance. After thirteen years fighting for survival, Amihanna di Aetes thought that she’d finally be safe on her father’s homeworld. But with Aunare blaming her for starting a war, everything is as far from okay as it could be. Her only respite from the chaos and pressures of her new life is Lorne ni Taure—the crown prince of the Aunare, her betrothed. He wants her to take her place at his side. To fight in the war with him. But why would she risk her life for people who want her dead?

She is also the author of the hugely popular werewolf YA Alpha Girl series, which has sold more than 500,000 copies:
Book 1: Becoming Alpha
Book 2: Avoiding Alpha
Book 3: Alpha Divided
Book 4: Bruja
Book 5: Alpha Unleashed
Book 6: Shattered Pack
Book 7: Being Alpha
Book 8: Lunar Court
Book 9: Alpha Erased

Her fans call her stories "jaw dropping," "electrifying," "amazing," and "bloody brilliant." Bloggers say "Erin's world-building is excellent and her characters are big and bold"(Escape Into Worlds) and every book is "a magnet that just keeps pulling until you feel as if you are falling down, down, down right into its world" (Tempest of Books). Cipher 4.2 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 19 reviews.

Fast paced action in a completely real world. Well written and fun in every way, this is so much more than what one might consider a cyberpunk novel. The heroine is unpredictable and sublime. This book is a happy explosion of creativity.

Cipher is a unique science fiction story that I can't say I've run across anything like it before. The main character, Cipher is a hacker extraordinaire that runs from one place to the next as soon as she thinks her identity is compromised. The reason she runs, is that she's a Red Helix. A Red Helix is basically a person with slightly modified DNA which gives them some sort of ability. Cipher has the ability to harness electricity. The exact powers vary and though rare, there are other Red Helixes. Enter the Shadow Ravens, the group that is out to locate and protect the Red Helixes. Knight, a gamer that knows Cipher from online is the male lead that enters the story after a bit. I enjoyed his character, he has that protective vibe going but he wasn't really rude about it. The whole story is a race against the clock to get Cipher out of danger and back to their compound to safety. There are quite a few obstacles in their way and I wasn't sure if they'd make it. I will note that the books in this series will change authors which I find intriguing. I'm excited to read book two since it is penned by one of my favorite authors, Lola Dodge! I'd recommend this story if you're looking for something a bit out of the box.

Action packed, fast paced. It just lacked something for me. At one point in the book cypher is described as being mature, having to take on a lot of responsibility on her own, but readng through the book I dont really see it. I would have liked the book to be a little longer so I could see her the way the author wanted to portray her. All in all it was a good quick read.

Really like this author. Cipher is a solid stand alone good read. A bit disappointed that the next book set in this world is by a different author and we have to wait  a year for it to come out. Enjoyed the story, but likely to have forgotten about this world in the next 12 months.

I have been so excited about this book since I read the sneak peak a little while ago. I haven't read many sci-fi type books but I was drawn to the paranormal element of Cipher. I read a few mixed reviews when I started the book but honestly it didn't make a difference for me. I loved this book - end of story! Characters & Storyline: 5/5 Aileen has a way of creating lovable and amazing characters. All of them have their little ways and they are so entertaining, each bringing their own to the story.  Emma: I took to Emma quickly and just loved her to pieces. She is a bit of damaged goods but it adds to her character.  She is strong, brave & smart. Emma is dangerous - being a red helix and even though she has had a tough life, she doesn't act like a victim.  Hunter: Oh man this swoonworthy gorgeous lovable amazing man! He is just perfect. Strong enough and sweet on the flip side, brave and gentle, and will do anything to find protect Emma. He definitely made my book boyfriend list! Emma & Hunter's love & chemistry just work. Its a little bit instalove but with some history if that makes sense. Their was just the right amount of resistance and more than enough attraction. Dex, Oliver & Hunter - What a close knit bunch! I loved their interactions. They tough, rough men & bros til the end.  Plot, Pace, Writing style: 5/5   The plot was exciting and the pace was perfect. Aileen draws you in smoothly and sneaks them into your heart. Aileen has a gift at weaving amazing stories. I hope we see what becomes of gang! I am extremely interested to see how this series plays out with the first 3 books being written by 3 different authors. Do I really have to wait til 2016 too see Em & Hunter again??? Hope not.  Cover talk: 5/5 I love the cover!!  Final Thoughts: I loved it & am hooked to this series!

The first thing I have to say is "wow" about this book. I couldn't put it down pretty much from the moment I picked it up until I finished it. It didn't take long at all to read either. You can definitely tell this is meant to be part of a series and part of what kept it from being 5 crowns is because it's such a typical story arc (and didn't strike any brand new ground for a new twist to the expected "Save the world from the evil corporation running it" trope), but that causes no problems for reading this as a stand-alone book. Cipher - Ahh, strong, brainy, and a total computer geek. Loved that she was a mega hacker...who had issues with electricity. Knight - Working for the bad guys as a deep cover agent - great story line and angst when it comes to deciding whether to break his cover or not. The world building was fantastic. I'm still not very clear how we got from the world as it is to the world as it turns out in the Shadow Ravens series, but that's not particularly crucial to understand. I really got behind the idea of the helixes identifying those who are a step above and in what categories. The double-helixes (like Knight) were a cool idea. The romance between Cipher/Knight flowed nicely and definitely built on their original relationship as children. The one thing I have to say about that was when Knight was first examining his memories to refresh what he was looking for (he's been looking for Cipher all along), he sees that she should be tall and doesn't get why exactly she's not as tall as the programs projected she would be. The reason this bugs me is they make such a deal about the memories, especially the far-back ones like retrieved about young Cipher, are unlikely to be particularly accurate, yet the author goes out of her way for Cipher to explain she's short based on malnutrition. I failed to see why that mattered when they had an explanation already in place. But, over all, this is a great book and having never read anything by Ms. Erin before, it was fabulous introduction. I can't wait to read more in the Shadow Ravens series.

4 Stars I don’t usually read a lot of YA, but this book kept me hooked the whole time. I felt it could have had a little more romance but the story is very engaging. Lately I've been reading a couple of books that are the first to a new series, and I've found that while the story line and foundation for the next books is remarkable, it takes too much of the actual story/romance of the main characters. We will follow the story of Cipher, a red helix, who has been on the run since she was 8. She, as any other unstable red helix, is chased to be studied or terminated and in her case the one most interested in her capture (and the responsible for her parents' deaths) is her own uncle. Unbeknownst to her, her childhood friend Hunter, has been looking for her for the last 12 years. Hunter, now known as Knight, has dedicated his life to find Emma, the little next door girl who saved his life and risked hers in the process. He doesn't realize that the girl he was looking for has been practically under his nose most of the time. When they finally find each other, they’ll have to face copious amounts of trouble to finally get their HEA…if they are still alive after everything. This was a really good read. It depicts how easily human beings forget what it actually means to be a person and lose themselves to power and greed. How sometimes even though it seems fruitless you still have to stand up and fight, even if the outcome is not looking so good for you. As I said before, I wish they could have had a bit more time to be together, but in the end, all the action made up for the lack of romance. Ok, no, nothing makes up for the lack of romance, but it still was really good. My main complain about this series will be that I have to wait a whole freakin’ year for the next installment. Dear author, that is just mean. I’m eagerly anticipating the next couple and hope to see a little more of Cipher and Knight as the story unfolds. This is a highly recommended read for those moms who want to share a good book with their girls: it’s easy to read, fast paced and keeps the romance to a minimum without being totally about the action.
