Completists' Ultimate Collection, Vol. 4

Completists' Ultimate Collection, Vol. 4

by Lee Wiley

CD

Overview

On April 10 and 15, 1940, singer Lee Wiley recorded eight selections that formed her Cole Porter songbook album. Her record dates have been greatly expanded, both on an earlier Meritt LP and now reissued with even more tracks on this release from Devil's Music. In addition to the eight master takes, there are ten complete alternate takes, 13 incomplete performances, one false start, and eight bits of studio chatter. Although far from essential for more general listeners who will be satisfied with the released performances, fans of Wiley and the great trumpeter Bunny Berigan will savor every note and enjoy hearing each song gradually come together.
