I was keeping an eagle eye out for the ARC of this book, having enjoyed books 1 & 2, Blamed & Ripped so very, very much. I mean, exactly how often can you read the phrase warmongering used both correctly and literally in a romance novel. But that's what the Faraday family is all about - War. From the assassin, to political and financial machinations, to spying and soldiering, to actual creation of the weaponry. This family deals in all aspects of War and Violence. At the end of the previous book, the youngest brother was kidnapped right off the streets of Boston, leaving us with a bit of a cliffhanger wondering how the family would respond. This isn't his story. This is the eldest, Casey's story. We got to know him a bit in the first two books, mentioned alongside the other siblings. But now it's Casey's turn to take the driver's seat and show us what he's made of - sexy, scary things mostly. Casey and Ilda's story was full of flashbacks, from both perspectives. It takes a while, but we find out the whys and hows to his believe she was dead. There was some misdirection involved here, and it took most of the book for the truth to come out. Her secret was what I figured it would be, no real surprise there. I was surprised by the main villain though, he managed to shock me in the end. The series arc that was started in Blamed continues on, not really giving us much more to work with. I hope that sister Gillian's story will tell us more. I enjoyed this read and can't wait to read more about these unique Faraday siblings. I gave this book 4 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and Carina Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Wow! This story was intense from start to finish. Casey and Ilda were just magnetic together. Despite their four year separation, they were immediately drawn together again. Their journey to each other was full of roadblocks, but Casey never waivered. I thoroughly enjoyed his character. He was fierce, protective, possessive, full of selflessness for his family, and dropped everything for them. Ilda was a beautiful woman, struggling to do what was right. She was so strong and so brave. But the two characters who stole my heart in this book were Arlo and Adam. I need to know what happens to him. He just melted my heart with his sacrifice. The whole family has me intrigued for their stories. I need to go back and read the first ones in this series to know how each family member has survived their tragedies and what has shaped them into they are. I like that each story intertwines while giving each couple a happy ending and setting the stage for the next book. This was my first book to read by Edie Harris and I will go back to read the others. This is a stand alone story for Casey and Ilda, but a continuation of their family dilemma. So good.
Casey and Ilda met, fell in love, spent a short time together and then one horrible day happened and they believed the other had died in a cataclysmic situation. Four years later they realize that this is not true when Casey heads back undercover trying to locate his younger brother kidnapped by a Columbia Cartel. Casey and Ilda are definitely soul mates with a combustible steamy relationship and difficulties most couples will, thankfully, never encounter. Casey is the oldest Faraday sibling, a take charge protective caring sexy alpha male. He carries a lot on his shoulders but those shoulders are very broad, strong and able to carry the load. He has brothers and sisters who are involved in the family business of making arms sold to the US government and it sounds like each sibling has quite a lot to offer to the family company. Casey is an interesting character and one that I enjoyed getting to know. Ilda is a talented beautiful musician with the voice of a songbird. She lost her sister, nearly died, had a baby on her own and did the best you could to survive and give her child the best possible future based on what she thought she knew. Being caught up in a Columbia cartel provided her security and safety for herself and her child but then things began to change. Pipe – the leader of the cartel – was intelligent, ruthless and lived by a rigid set of rules. He was a classy but scary man that I would not want to cross. There is intrigue, violence, steamy sex, decisions to be made, a kidnapping that I thought would be resolved differently and the set up for future books in the series was delightfully done. I left wanting to read the first two books to find out more about Beth & Vick and Chandler & Tobias. I also would like to get my hands on book four to find out what will happen with Gillian. And, that said…that undercover priest sounds like he might need a story in the future along with quite a few other characters I met in this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Carina Press for the copy of this ARC to read and review.
