The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Morning Star returns to the Red Rising universe with the thrilling sequel to Iron Gold.

For a decade Darrow led a revolution against the corrupt color-coded Society. Now, outlawed by the very Republic he founded, he wages a rogue war on Mercury in hopes that he can still salvage the dream of Eo. But as he leaves death and destruction in his wake, is he still the hero who broke the chains? Or will another legend rise to take his place?

Lysander au Lune, the heir in exile, has returned to the Core. Determined to bring peace back to mankind at the edge of his sword, he must overcome or unite the treacherous Gold families of the Core and face down Darrow over the skies of war-torn Mercury.

But theirs are not the only fates hanging in the balance.

On Luna, Mustang, Sovereign of the Republic, campaigns to unite the Republic behind her husband. Beset by political and criminal enemies, can she outwit her opponents in time to save him?

Once a Red refugee, young Lyria now stands accused of treason, and her only hope is a desperate escape with unlikely new allies.

Abducted by a new threat to the Republic, Pax and Electra, the children of Darrow and Sevro, must trust in Ephraim, a thief, for their salvation—and Ephraim must look to them for his chance at redemption.

As alliances shift, break, and re-form—and power is seized, lost, and reclaimed—every player is at risk in a game of conquest that could turn the Rising into a new Dark Age.

Pierce Brown does not hold any punches back in his stories. You will think things are going ok, then suddenly he pulls the rug out from under you and theres lava. This second trilogy has been a slightly bit harder to read only because its told from several angles and if you are not good at keeping up id suggest getting a notepad. Book 2 is a rough ride. Like we may need a support group afterwards to tend to the wounds given in this one. Book 1 set up Darrow to be hated by the readers, luckily he gets -some- love back. Some old faces show back up, some old faces get eaten alive... its a rough one. As with all pierce brown books weve come to expect death of a beloved side character. If youve been with the previous books by now you have probably endured to not like ANYONE just in case they get slaughtered. Still going to happen. Couple times. Going to be kicked in the chest by revelations several times. Overall the book is probably 700 pages of the reader getting beat down then 100 pages of a bandage and an aspirin. Not everything is ok by the end of the book. which as a book 2 is completely expected. Its not as bad of a cliffhanger as the last trilogy book 2. This ones actually more hopeful. Overall, Pierce is mean but the book is pretty bloodydamn good.

Best book of the series. He totally knocked this one out of the park. More than ever the depths of the characters is really what makes the story come to life. I really like how the different characters chapters show a different side of the story, as opposed to reading solely from Darrows perspective.
