Overview

David, unlike any Bible character before him, had the charisma to inspire a great nation. Yet in other ways he was a most ordinary man-often gripped by destructive passion, rocked by personal tragedy, and motivated by political gain. Yet, he is the one character the Bible describes as a "man after God's own heart." In this first volume of the "Great Lives" series Charles Swindoll shows how David proved his love for God many times over in an extraordinary life that left an enduring legacy of faith.

I very much enjoyed this book! Charles Swindoll has some wonderful insights about the life of David. I also like how he included certain bible passages throughout the book. Can't wait to read all of the other 'Profiles of Character' Books!

there is no better way to learn the lessons of the great men of the bible than to learn them not as fables decorated with grandiose fabrications of eloquent words and repetitive statements but as simple child-like lessons with truths that though are basic, may also elude the seeker of the complex. Chuck Swindoll, in typical fashion, delivers David into our hands not as we would like for him or any of our other heroes to be, but as he really was, and he makes all the character of David and thus the status and intimacy which he achieved with God attainable because in his simplicity and sincerity, he brings to us David as David really was- a man. This is required reading for anyone who thinks being a man after God's own heart could only happen before electricity and email.

Why can't anyone admit when a Christian book is just plain bad.
