If you like the Design*Sponge blog, then you will like this book. For anyone else not familiar with the blog (I wasn't until after I bought the book), it has lots of helpful, approachable, and yet inspirational DIY tips, ideas, and projects. In particular I like the upholstery instructions, sewing tips, and the many DIY projects such as the padded headboard. The only section I found slightly odd was the flower-arranging chapter. While it is useful for beginner flower-arrangers (and makes sense in that the blog features a weekly blooms column, I learned), I think I would've preferred more DIY information or more decor/styling content. The flower-arranging chapter probably would've been better served in its own book published separately. (Also, Barnes and Noble's edition has extra online content that I really enjoyed.)

In this day and age you need to decide which books are great for the ereaders and which need the hard copy... This one should be a hard copy. It would have looked lovely on my coffee table and a great read for anyone to pick and browse to get some great decorating ideas.

Design Sponge at Home is a companion to the popular Design Sponge blog. The basic concept is that interior design can be affordable and accessible. The first section of the book called 'Sneak Peaks' takes the reader to several homes with several photographs of each. Many of these homes feature D.I.Y. projects and re-purposed furniture. Each home is unique, but modest. The second section feature hands on instructions for D.I.Y. projects featured on the Design Sponge blog. Each project is illustrated and described in detail. A third section focuses on before and after photographs. Each photograph shows the cost, time and difficulty level. Overall, this is a very useful tool for anyone interested in improving their home.

This is a really great book if you're seeking home decorating inspiration for your space or looking for a unique d.i.y. project. There are a lot of home tours to page through, projects, flower arranging, and before&afters. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to put some personality into their home without having to spend a lot of money.
