Overview
Easily the most anticipated debut recording in hip-hop history, Snoop Doggy Dogg's first album set a new standard for West Coast gangsta rap. The man one critic referred to as the only rapper who can drawl consonants got his start rapping on tracks by Dr. Dre. Snoop's distinctive drawl remains a fine match for Dre's smooth Clintonesque funk, and while his lyrical content was fairly straightforward gangsta rap, his delivery made it entertaining. Tracks like the Slick Rick cover "Lodi Dodi" and "Gin and Juice," are bona fide party classics, while the Dramatics collaboration, "Doggy Dogg World," underscores Snoop's penchant for '70s soul revisions. With colorful cameos by artists like Dat Nigga Daz, Lady of Rage, Warren G, and Korrupt, DOGGYSTYLE was one of the most entertaining rap records of the decade.
