One of Elvis Presley's most successful post-Army vehicles, Blue Hawaii casts Elvis as scion to a Hawaiian pineapple fortune. His snooty mother Angela Lansbury wants Presley to take over the management of the family business, but he'd rather make his own way in the world. He lands a job at a tourist agency, and incidentally finds time to dally with such lovelies as Joan Blackman and Nancy Walters. Steve Brodie, as ever, is on hand to inveigle Elvis into an outsized brawl. Among the songs featured in the film are the title number (originally written in 1937 for Bing Crosby) and "Can't Help Falling in Love."

Blue Hawaii is my favorite Elvis movie. I loved the family plot, young love plot and the ending was great. The movie also had bits of racism & class issues that were handled with dignity.

This film is a family delight. I enjoyed it because of the scenery, the plot/s and, of course, Elvis. I've been told that the scenery is authentic Hawaii; whether true or not, it is gorgeous. It is, obviously, a musical..and a love story, too (of course). It is a movie that made me feel keen disappointment that there was no sequel...but then, I cannot begin to imagine how the story line could have been continued.

This is simply the most wonderful piece of filmography I have EVER encountered. Because ELVIS IS IN IT! wow, man.... nothing else to say. I mean, ya know, it's like the greatest thing in the world, man...
