Steve Rash's high school romantic comedy Can't Buy Me Love comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Supplemental materials are limited to trailers. This is a sparse, but acceptable disc from Disney/Buena Vista that should be appealing to fans of the film, but offers little to the average DVD consumer.

*Warning* - this IS NOT a widescreen DVD!!!! I love the movie, but was snookered by the clearly false description "DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1." When I received the DVD I realized it was the same as the DVD I already owned - 4x3 full-screen.

This is one of my favorite 80's teen movies. Unfortunately seeing it in the movie theater was the only chance I had to see it in widescreen format because this DVD is only 4:3.

If you want to know what a classic 80s teen sex comedy looked like, here it is. This flick has all the ingredients - The improbable pairing of the two main characters. A Falling In Love music montage. And of course, a climax with a lesson - the speech/epiphany of the main character that explains why we're watching it in the first place. The only thing it could use is more gratituous nudity. I'm not watching it because the actors who play Bobby or Big John are good actors, I'm watching it for lines like ''He's trying to pull a Ronald McDonald Miller'' or ''I know two girls who got pretty comfortable in that spaz-mobile.'' Get comfortable and don't take it too seriously.

Patrick Dempsey as a nerd- then, McDreamy- now. Great movie. Fantasically funny with some very poignant moments. True 80's classic.

Can't Buy me Love movie should be on television ( on any main chanel such a 4 or 5 ) once or twice a year during an evening & perhaps without commercials or at least be sure to show every part / scenes of the movie.
This is such an classic movie and so true to it's words / actions of how teenagers are growing up now-a-days & even back in the 70's & 80's..
This movie is both dramatic and a comedy as well.
Very good w/ actors whom today are well known such as Patrick Dempsey ..

Patrick Dempsey plays Ronald Miller, a high school nerd who is about to enter his senior year and would like to be one of the in-crowd people. Cyndi Mancini is a popular cheeerleader who has just ruined her mother's good dress. Ronald will pay $1000 to help Cyndi out if she'll agree to pretend to be his girlfriend for one month, in hopes of becoming popular due to his association with her. Well the plan works and Ronald reaches popularity status, but fame is fleeting. I'll let you watch the film and see what happens next. This is a nice film with good performances that also stars Courtney Gains & a young Seth Green. Enjoy it!

Patrick Dempsey's character is a member of the socially unpopular brainy types society often refers to as Nerds. Suddenly he leaps to the height of popularity when instead of buying a telescope, he purchases the services of the most popular girl in school. For the price, she pretends to like him, propelling him to a pinnacle of school popularity with cheerleaders, jocks and all the big people on campus. Along the way he learns a difficultly taught lesson of true acceptance, friendship and teamwork when he loses it all...even his former brainy friends have alienated him from their group. He is truly all alone. Patrick Dempsey's character plummets from a whirlwind of high times to the pit of social derision. He is made a social outcast. It's been 10 years since I've seen this movie and it's life lessons are so vivid, I still remember them quite clearly. On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the top or best, I give this film a 5.5. Do not pass on this one, do catch it, you will definitely enjoy it.
