Philippe de Broca's gentle comic masterpiece gets a simple but satisfying treatment on DVD. The film has been given a letterboxed transfer in its original 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio (the images have also been enhanced for playback on widescreen monitors), and the original audio track (in French and English) has been mastered in Dolby Digital Mono. The dialogue has been subtitled in English, French, and Spanish, and the film's original theatrical trailer has been included as a bonus. While this disc offers little in the way of supplemental material, it also shows film looking and sounding better than it ever had on video.

My favorite movie ever! Truly makes you think outside the box about who is really sane and the futility of war. Very funny, thoughtful, life affirming film. Alan Bates has never been better.

This is a timeless movie pertinent to any time of war or peace. It puts forth a theme that is prominent throughout literature, that those waging war are the insane, and those who are peaceful, simple, and considered the "crazy" ones, have the better grip on life. This movie achieves this through a light comedy theme, and rich symbolism. Whenever I need a quick pick me up, this is top on my list.
