Overview

A failing shoe factory that's struggling to maintain its footing following the death of its founder finds the inspiration needed to stay in business from the most unlikely of sources in veteran British director Julian Jarrold's warmhearted tale of fancy footwear and changing times. Charlie Price (Joel Edgerton) just can't seem to keep the factory afloat on his own, and with the livelihood of his entire small town hanging in the balance, he needs to come up with something truly groundbreaking. Lola (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is a sassy female impersonator with a flair for style and a great mind for design. Though on paper their inventive scheme to save the factory may sound too outrageous to be true, stranger things have happened in the world of business, and if it doesn't break them, it may just transform them into the richest footwear manufacturers in all of England.

I love this movie. Chiwetel Ejiofor is so talented. I would not have expected to see him portray the role of a female impersonator (Lola) after seeing him play the part of a villian in Four Brothers, starring Mark Wahlberg. Joel Edgerton, playing the part of Charlie, has to think fast and quick in how to revive his shoe manufacturing business, which he inherits from his father. The lines of shoes that are being manufactured just aren't cutting it, so he enlists the help of Lola. Lola wants a pair of red leather thigh high boots manufacture to her desire. The order isn't quite right, as they are burgundy color and the heels are about 2 inches high, resembling heels of cowboy boots - not sexy. It is not what Lola wants. Of course, it's "whatever Lola wants, Lola gets". She wants them in red, as "red represents sex". Ooh, la, la - red leather, thigh high, stiletto boots. Charlie's shoe manufacturing business needs to thrive, so he and his assistant decide the boots are to be worn and shown in Milan, Italy. Charlie tries to model the boots, but he loses his balance, slips and falls, and he can't get up. Then, voila, somebody walks down the catwalk, modeling the same sexy red leather boots and singing "...these boots are made for walking and one of these days these boots will walk all over you...". Well, it's none other than Lola with her entourage following her on the catwalk, modeling the different styles of ladies' footwear. They definitely steal the show and upon their return home, Charlie's shoe manufacturing business is once again up and running.

This movie is not what you would expect. It is very amusing and actually quite uplifting. Definitely a movie for a game night or girls night in.
