Fox offers yet another excellent DTS audio transfer for Predator. During the scenes witnessed from the eyes of the alien, the rear speakers are wonderfully utilized to hear the soldiers' barely comprehensible voices. The depth of the sound field in these scenes helps to heighten the suspense of the film. The crisp DTS sounds shine during several shootout scenes, especially when all the soldiers fire at the unseen jungle for several minutes. This disc also includes a well-done 5.1-channel Dolby Digital transfer, as well as a decent 2.0-channel Dolby Surround track. The 1.85:1 widescreen anamorphic transfer on this disc is surprisingly uneven and varied. During certain scenes, the events on the screen shine with brilliance and clarity, while other portions contain large amounts of grain that hinder the overall presentation of the film. Overall, the visuals are stunning and work well, but the intermittent poor moments keep it from being an excellent transfer. This disc contains no extra features except for a brief theatrical trailer, which is presented in a full-screen format that is around VHS quality. It's nice to see a preview that gives away very little about the plot of the film. Of course, at that time, Arnold Schwarzenegger's name was enough to draw hordes of fans to a picture. The menus on this disc are amateurish and poor; in fact, they rank with some of the worst on any recent DVD.

This movie spawned an entire series. That series has horrible chapters and excellent ones. This one has become a classic among action movies, sci-fi, an Arnold fans. Arnold's characters was named Dutch. He leads an elite military squad. So elite that they could choose which missions they accepted, and could disobey orders without extreme consequences. They were trained to be completely lethal, but they weren't assassins. They were a rescue squad, capable of eliminating anything between them and who they were sent to save. The Predator is a fascinating alien, both physically and mentally. He's a reptilian humanoid. His eyes are nothing like human, he sees they world through thermographic vision. His psyche is that of a hunter and a warrior. Humans are his prey of choice. His primary weapons are wrist mounted blades and energy weapons. He also had a cloaking technology, that makes him nearly invisible to human eyes. He appears as nothing but shimmering or rippling image. As Dutch's team moves through the jungle, they're hunted by the predator. They faced something that didn't exist in their training. As the hunt continued, their conditioned responses deteriorated. One by one they reverted to their natural/individual states. Mac had a complete break down. He chased the Predator into the jungle, while screaming maniacly. Dillon overcame his CIA training, and remembered how to care about people - he went to save Mac. Confronted by the Predator, he found redemption and died with honor. Billy eventually stopped running. He drew a large knife waited for the Predator. He died standing tall and strong. Dutch was far more than a trained fighter, he was a natural Warrior. He lead the Predator away from the few survivors and then found a way to block the Predator's vision. He staked out a part of the jungle, and outfitted it with a variety of traps. Then attached grenades to a spear and arrow. Once his chosen battle ground was ready, he lured the Predator to him. On arrival the Predator found himself being hunted. Dutch hit him with both grenades, knocking out the cloaking shield and left him bleeding. The Predator eventually cornered Dutch, and appraised him thoroughly. Then he removed his energy weapons and his mask. The final battle wasn't hunter and prey. It was Warrior to Warrior - Face to Face. When lethally wounded the Predator activated a self destruct device. No one in the audience ever forgets when the count down was initiated. The Predator's laugh is burned into the memory of every fan.

well right now im on AIM getting mad at all my friends who havent seen predator. i also just saw alien for the first time, so dont yell at me. but seriously, this is quite possibly the epitemy of expert moviemaking, acting, and writing. Predator is also the epitemy of all antagonists ever devised by the feeble, human mind of a director. BUY THIS MOVIE. DONT ASK QUESTIONS, JUST BUY.

I hope people just don't start reviewing this movie because of the new cop out release Alien v Predator. This was the best action movie 17 years ago and is still up there with the best today. The gungho dialogue is a crackup and fits in perfect with the action. The support cast is great and it's one of those movies you can watch time and time again. Action movies no way cut it like this one. So for all of you that played predator with your toys 17 years ago 'how good is this movie', for those who still haven't seen it and will watch it (due to this 2004 butchering of two classics), sit back and watch one of the best action movies of it's time!! One liners a plenty! I aint got time to bleed

One of Arnold's best films outside of Conan and Terminator. Also a great action star line-up with Jesse Ventura and Carl Weathers. The characters are GI-Joe action figure stereotypes but the script and action sequences make them believable and entertaining. Even with the mystery of the predator being gone, I still get thrills every time I see this movie: not to mention laughs at the humorous dialogue; 'I'm gonna have me some fun! I'm gonna have me some fun!' The special effects are still great after all of this time and the music really carries on the suspense. Altogether one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made! I've watched this movie a hundred times and I still enjoy it.

Many times Arnold finds himself the target of movie scrutiny. However, this is one time Arnold will always get the last laugh. This is one of the greatest movies of all time. This movie has it all, including besides Terminator and Conan Arnold's best work. The casting and acting is tremendous. The plot is still being duplicated to this day. This is just one helluva movie

This was such a cool movie it's hard to come up with a word for it, Spectacular, awesome, classic, all of these fit the movie's description. Dutch (Arnold) was assigned to carry out a rescue mission with a group of professionals. What they end up doing is trying to survive a creature who is killing the team members one by one. A great movie, one every action fan should own.

When it comes down to sci-fi/action movies, this is simply one of the all time best there is...and is one of my all time favorites in the genre, and of Schwarzenegger's as well...Terminator 2 being my first favorite. It's hard to describe just how bad@$$ this movie is. I'm glad to see that it has been released on blue ray, and not held off & keeping fans hanging before they finally convert it sometime down the road. If it was any of several movies that they converted right away, this was definitely one that was wise to do so with. As I gradually begin converting over to high def, I am focusing more on just newer movies or ones that I don't already have on DVD, but there are certain exceptions...certain favorite titles that I gradually want to upgrade that are definitely blue ray worthy, and this is one of those titles. Now that I have looked and know for sure that there is a blue ray edition, (I originally wrote a review on the blue ray edition, but its glitched and wouldn't submit my review), it is most certainly going to be one of my next blue ray purchases. Predator 2 and the Alien vs. Predator movies never even came close to comparing to this one, though I am very curious to see Predators that is coming out very soon, because it looks like it might possibly come close, though I'm pretty confident it still won't quite compare. If you are a sci fi and action fan and have never seen the original predator, than that's a straight up Greek tragedy. Epic fail! If you fall into this category, than I suggest you see this movie very soon. As for the rest of you sci-fi/action geeks out there who are cool and have seen this, cheers! I am sure most of you, like me, unless you already have, will be upgrading this to blue ray as well...just as soon as you're ready & set up to do so. I, for one, will be doing so very soon!
