A bereaved farmer enlists the aid of a terrifying demon to help avenge his son's death in this stylish horror movie that contains a strong moral. It all begins as gentle widowed farmer/general store owner Ed's beloved 10-year-old son is involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident with an careless unknown motorcyclist. Ed nearly goes berserk with grief and to bring back his son heads to the cabin of a wise old witch to see if she can rejuvenate the youth. Unfortunately, it is beyond her considerable powers so Ed, now equally desperate for revenge, invokes the legendary Pumpkinhead, a terrifying demon with the power to make the biker pay. One by one, Pumpkinhead dispatches the terrified cyclist and his friends, leaving Ed to reconsider his rashness. He tries to call the demon back, but by then it is far too late.... The film is the directorial debut of Oscar-winning special effects wizard Stan Winston.

This movie is a classic. It is a great story of a man and his son, some rowdy kids come to town, son falls victim to their horseplay, dad goes to the woods, finds the ugliest woman on the planet, ugly woman congers up a demon, dad has to sell his soul, demon kills the rowdy kids, dad dies. I believe this was the directing debut for Stan Winston (Jurassic Park), who himself is a special effects legend in Hollywood. All in all, no this film is not the Godfather or Star Wars, it is a cheesy 80's horror film. That alone should be reason enough to snatch up a copy!

Liked this horrific backwoods classic tale of retaliation after the nightmare of loosing a child though an ignorant teenagers over the top behavior. Great acting in this stylized foggy little chiller. Lots going on, great little details, may bore those that just like endless slasher killer movies. Not many movies are made like this anymore, its all computerized to death for the most part anymore, with no imagaination. Great to take out during the Halloween season especially, theres a story here for starters.....

This movie is one of the reasons that I will always appreciate the horror days before the overuse of computer to make a scare. You have to love the design of the demon creature in the movie. It has a creepy realness to it! A great movie for any horror fan!!!

I watched this expecting a cult classic. But it bored me. The pumkin head thing was pretty cool looking i guess but it was too boring.
