Charles T. Kanganis' uplifting film about students learning to believe in themselves, Race the Sun, comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include theatrical trailers. The film may be inspiring, but this bare-bones DVD is not. Give Columbia/TriStar credit for the superb sound quality, but there is little here of interest for the average DVD consumer.
