The world's least-employable heavy metal guitarist is entrusted with the minds of upstate New York's best and brightest in this fish-out-of-water comedy. Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, axe-bearer for a fitfully successful bar band determined to win a regional battle-of-the-bands competition. There's only one thing standing in their way: the self-indulgent solos and crowd-diving antics of their "embarrassing" lead guitarist. When his band votes him out in favor of a would-be rock god, Dewey has to make the rent somehow, and after intercepting a call for his substitute-teacher roomie Ned (Mike White), the pot-bellied slacker finds himself in front of a class of elite elementary school students. At a loss for a lesson plan, Dewey takes offense at the pre-teen prodigies' staid musical regimen and makes it his goal to preach them the gospel of The Who, Led Zeppelin, and AC/DC -- with the ulterior motive of getting them to compete against his former band for a cash prize. But no matter how willing his pupils, Dewey runs up against the consternation of the school's stern headmistress Principal Mullins (Joan Cusack), the battle-of-the-bands' promoter (Frank Whaley), and not least, his identity-deprived roomie Ned.

A truly great vehicle for Jack Black. He pretty much carries the entire movie. Not to discount the fine performances of the kids and Joan Cusack as the principal, but if you're looking for a movie showcasing Black as a great comedian. you'll want to watch this movie.

I love this movie!I met Jack Black(Dewet Finn)and Miranda Cosgrove(Summer Hathaway)and Joan Cusack(Rosalee Mullins)at the Premier in L.A. and they were really excited about their movie. This movie is a good movie, a GREAT movie, but it was not REALISTIC enough for critics.I liked it even though I am not a huge fan of Rock N' Roll anymore.

THIS MOVIE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved that somebody like Jack Black can make such a great movie. It's cool that they used kids who can really play, not just having them look like they are playing, with music in the backround . I love all of the music in this movie. Before this movie I didn't like rock that much, but after seeing it I started to like rock music more than before. I love that on the DVD they have a regular comentary with Jack Black and the director, and then one with most of the kids. This DVD is the BEST ONE!!!!!!!!!!

This film was excellent! It was such a good movie with tons of good music. It has a great number of good rock hits not to mention their own music. Jack Black and all of the actors were histerical. It was very fun and amusing to see everything going down in a hillarious way. I enjoyed it a lot and i think you will too.

I saw the sneak preview for School of Rock and this movie “rocked!” The trailer did not interest me, and although I am not a big fan of Jack Black, I am glad I went to see this movie. The story line was great. The 10-year-old children were talented and adorable in everyway. Seeing the children in their private school uniforms was priceless. I loved each and every one of the unique characters. Black’s performance for this film made him stand out like no other actor would do. School of Rock was a great comedy! “Rock on, School of Rock!”

The movie, School of Rock, directed by Richard Linklater, is a heart-warming, fun-filled movie about a rock musician, Dewey Finn (Jack Black), who pretends to be his best friend, Ned Schneebley (Mike White), a substitute teacher. Dewey needs money to pay his rent, so he pretends to be Ned and accepts a job teaching at Horace Green Prep, a prestigious elementary school. Dewey is introduced as a sloppy, lazy, immature rocker; not the kind of person you would expect to teach children. At first, he does not take the job seriously and just wants to get paid. Dewey, now known as Mr. Schneebley, would be the villain in any other movie, but School of Rock twists the classic story and turns it into an entertaining story about letting go and being yourself. After seeing his students in music class, Dewey recognizes their potential and introduces them to rock instruments. This moment was important because the audience sees Dewey's positive side. Dewey wants the children to have enjoyment in their lives because all they think about is schoolwork. Dewey asks a student, Zach (Joey Gaydoas,) if he has ever played the electric guitar. Zach replies, "No, my dad thinks it's a waste of time." This revels the pressure the students are under from their parents. Dewey soon learns that this is the case with many of the students. They are only in 5th grade, and yet there is so much pressure on them to do well in school that they have no time for fun. Dewey's immaturity lets him connect with the students, and makes him a better teacher. The students are comfortable with Dewey and trust him, which is not usually the case with most teachers. Because Dewey has always wanted to play in Battle of the Bands, a band competition, he creates a class project called Rock Band, and tells the class that it is a requirement. Dewey begins teaching the students rock history, theory, appreciation, and how to be a part of a rock band. Jack Black's comedic performance and hilarious physical humor makes these scenes hysterically funny. The kids' stand-out performances only add to the comedy. Eventually, the parents and the students find out that Dewey is a fraud. The students are mad at "Mr. Schneebley" at first, but then they realize what a great teacher he actually is. They learn how to be themselves, and that grades are not everything. In the end, both the students and Dewey have learned about themselves and have grown up. Dewey teaches the students not to do work just for the grades, but for passion and enjoyment. From the students, Dewey learns that he is capable of accomplishing something other than playing rock music. School of Rock has comical brilliance and life lessons all tied up into one fabulous movie.

Jack Black puts on a hilarious performance as a jobless rocker. I didn't know anything about real rock before I saw this movie. I guess you could say it took me to school too. Joan Cusack shines as the principal. The children as actors weren't all that great but they were real musicians so you'll totally appreciate that there is no lame 'air guitar' or fake pounding on the keyboard. I wanted to join a rock band after watching the movie, I was so inspired. Kids will also really enjoy this movie and it's pretty clean except for a few, sparse, explicit words. Class is in session so add School of Rock to your collection!

Thanks to the always-funny Jack Black,'School of Rock' really rocks. It's a 'Music Man' for a new generation.Unlike 'Music Man',though, there's a rock 'n roll band instead of a marching band and it's more of a movie about music than a musical. But like Harold Hill,Jack Black cons his way into a teaching career, teaches his kids how to play music,is soon won over by them, and opens their eyes (and ears)to the world. The children are natural-musicians and singers. The show they put on is awesome. And as I said before,Jack Black is amazingly-energetic and hilarious. Thumbs up!
