This biographical TV miniseries tracks members of the famed Motown group, The Temptations, faithfully following their rise to fame and the subsequent downhill race in a chronological coverage spanning 40 years. In 1958, when Detroit high-schoolers harmonize on street corners to meet girls, Otis Williams (Charles Malik Whitfield) finds his mom Haze (Tina Lifford) supports his singing but not his stepfather Edgar (Harold Surratt). When Williams brings together his group The Siberians -- with Franklin (D.B. Woodside) and Al Bryant (Chaz Lamar Shepherd) -- producer Johnnie Mae Matthews (Vanessa Bell Calloway) records the group as Otis Williams and the Distants. They perform with The Primes, including Kendricks (Terron Brooks) and Paul Williams (Christian Payton), and The Primettes (later The Supremes). When group members merge as The Elgins, Berry Gordy (Obba Babatunde) begins grooming the group. The name is changed to The Temptations, and a 1963 New Year's Eve altercation results in David Ruffin (Leon) replacing Bryant. The Motortown Revue is launched, and Smokey Robinson (Erik Michael Tristan) teams with Norman Whitfield (Mel Jackson) to compose/produce "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." As Ruffin becomes hooked on coke, Gordy moves to intro The Temptations to white record-buyers. In part two, Dennis Edwards (Charles Ley) replaces Ruffin, and after Paul Williams' suicide and some members leave the group, the act is dropped by Motown, later returning for a reunion tour and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This four-hour miniseries premiered November 1 on NBC.

The Temptations was the best NBC movie ever. It really would've made it as a Motion picture I believe. Who ever did casting for this movie....was excellent. EVERY single actor was great...the lip singing was great, the dancing was great...the emotion, the appeal the story, and even the temptations as a whole...were just...GREAT!!

I was always a fan of the Temptations, but this put it over the top. Very good and at times sad, movie.

I like these guys they are good to look at and certainly good to listen to. Their story is full of subplots; untold pieces linger long after the movie. We watch this movie from the point of view of the sole survivor of the group. It is obviously slanted. They are strong singers and strong characters. They are strong and weak, beautiful and sad, alone in the group and outside of the group. Their private lives aren¿t that important. You want to say just keep singing - just keep singing. Girls and wives are a constant, yet each member of the group has another love.

I didn't know making history was such a story. I love the temps even more now that I know their story. And what a story it is. This movie should have won some emmys or something. Great acting and great singing. I loved all of the music, and so will you

If anyone knew anything about Terron Brooks, who played Eddie Kendricks, they would know that he WAS NOT lip singing. I don't believe that Leon, who played David Ruffin, was either. Terron sounded better than the real Eddie! Listen to some old Tempts classics, you'll see.

I fell in love with the temptations all over again while watching this movie. This movie contains great acting and great music. You can almost feel the pain. If this movie doesn't make you feel alive again, nothing will. Thank you Otis Williams for your story. We didn't know.

I've seen the miniseries, The Temptations, 5 or 6 times. (Interestingly enough, my 79-year old father introduced me to it!) Leon's performance as David Ruffin is outstanding, riveting, emotionally charged, and wow can he sing and move! He is a superb actor whom I remember from ''Midnight Caller'', a tv program from 20 years ago. See this movie. You'll love it!

This movie was EXCELLENT! I have always liked the songs of The Temptations, but after seeing the movie and actually understanding all they did and how much they struggled to get where they did, I have become a huge fan! I picked up a DVD yesterday of Ed Sullivan shows with The Temptations performing on it. All of the actors in ''The Temptations'' were excellent, especially Leon, who played David Ruffin. I also got other movies Leon was in after seeing how well he portrayed Ruffin in the movie. He is an excellent actor. I have looked up all the actors who played Temptations on the internet and read about them. They all did a wonderful job and this movie is definitely a winner.

I am yet to see a better story of Motown and all of the wonderful talent that was born and created there. This movie is one of those that I can watch over and over. I am extreamly impressed with all of the actors that portrayed the singers, espically ''Leon'' (David Ruffin). Being a ''Motown Baby'' myself, this movie brings tears to my eyes, as I can ''FEEL'' it all. Bursting with energy, and magnificent music, this movie is a real plesure to watch...

I've liked the Temps for years and years and this movie just brought it all back to me. It's done so well, with such good actors that you're really drawn in to the story. There are so many great songs and they did such a good job on their famous dance moves. I loved every second. A real bonus is that you can go into a list of their songs and just play them alone. I would have loved more bio's on the actors though and also, outtakes would have been great too but it's a wonderful, touching film and we've watched it over and over. You won't be disapointed and you will probably learn a few things about the Temps that you didn't know before. You've just got to see this! Temptations Forever!

This is a wonderful movie. I've seen it about 10 times now. What is even better is that they used their own voices except in a few songs like ''My Girl''

My favorite all time movie. History class can be fun afterall. Very personal look into the lives of a group of men who would become legends with Motown. Bittersweet story of the rise and fall of a group. Great music and great acting. If you don't feel the pain, you are not alive

I have seen the temptations show many times. I love the music and acting. These guys bring it to life for me and I see something different in it each time I watch it. They have taken some of the most talented actors in the business and brought them together for a very special, timeless movie with great music. I encourage anybody who enjoys biographys of singing groups to watch this one. I just had to buy it for myself so I can watch it as many times as I want to!

This movie is beyond words. I loved every actor in the movie. But I have to admit (Smokey Robinson) played by Erik Michael Tristan, (Paul Williams) played by Christian Payton, and (Eddie Kendricks) played by Terron Brooks were the best in this movie. And to know that they all sang except for Leon, Charles Ley and Charles Whitfield. If I could think of a man to marry, it would go to Erik Michael Tristan. Whew! He is so finnnnnnnneeeeeee!!!!! God bless the woman who marries him. I just wish that he would be in more movies. Anyway, the film is great and it truly deserved the Emmy Award. However, I feel that the actors in the movie should have won some kind of award for their brilliant portrayal of the Temptations. You must watch this movie you will love it.

The Temptations are presented in this mini movie as young, talented, dedicated young men who gave all their God given talents through music to the world. We should be grateful for those writers who did an outstanding job, in presenting music history at it's finest. The actors were superberb. The story was believable as well as heart-warming. Often African-Americans take their stories to the grave, without the benefit of an audience looking into their lives to see just how it all came together. But this is truly a collector's item. I wish young musicians would learn from the experiences of these trailblazers. Thanks to everybody who contributed and gave their all to this project. Thanks most of all to Mr. Otis Williams for giving us a wonderful biography of probably history's finest R & B group.

I cannot say enough about this movie! The story is so profound! Each time I watch it, it's as if for the first time yet continues to become more endearing. Their story captured my heart as it moved through their tragedies and sucesses leaving you "not being able to put a good book down". Amazing! Yes, amazing talent! Their music is like none other! Their unique showmanship is captured through their class & style a stage presence that would not allow you to miss one minute of their performance. Elvis is the "Undisputed King of Rock n'Roll, but, The Temptations, well, I say, the "undisputed Kings of Motown"! There is nothing "phony" about their acting nor the whole progress of the story. These actors could've been "the real thing". They had me believing em' !! I pray this movie remains TIMELESS that it's awesome Story, acting, and music will live on for others to see, for a long, long time. I thank U, with all my heart...for that Movie presenation. I,truly, was left feeling that I was there wanting to cheer them on or help them in their life-changing sorrows as they remained steadfast in their struggles to stardom. Exceptionally "touching" was watching them pursue "Brothership" through their dramatic roller coaster ride to Overwhelming Success! Gloria....."Forever Temptations!"

I would think the title should be The Temptations. I have a DVD of the movie and it is titled The Temptations.

This DVD is AMAZING!!! I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE it!! I watch every single day and recite the script word for word. All of the actors were great especially Leon as the wonderfully talented Mister David Ruffin. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants some good entertainment. One thing though is I think that the makers of this tv mini-series turned movie could have focused a little more on the other members of the Temptations home and family life just a little more, but through and through... WONDERFUL!!!!!

I love that movie! I love that movie! That's all I can say. The actors, from Terron Brooks to Christian Payton, the singing, the dancing, the acting, every single thing. I know almost every song by heart by now. The temptations are the best!!
