About the Author

Author Sam Stone's family moved to South Florida in 1946, when he was only four years old - a wonderful time to live in Miami, with vacant lots on almost every block for kids to play in.
He lived in a section of Miami officially referred to as "Little River" (now known by many as "Little Haiti"). He grew up in the same neighborhood where he would spend a large portion of his firefighting career.
His parents owned rental properties. They also bought depressed homes, fixing them up to sell. He and his brothers were, of course, free labor, and grew up doing home improvements. He still does all the repairs and improvements around the house and helps friends with theirs, but also enjoys time at the computer writing short stories, novels, and stage plays.
While living in Florida, the author enjoyed shrimping from the seawall, swimming, and riding his bicycle. After he retired, Sam and his wife, Rose, moved to the mountains of Western North Carolina where they now live. Every fall, he attends the Miami Fire Fighters annual reunion, where he enjoys reminiscing with old confederates about their time spent together as Fire Fighters.
