Spencer (1820-1903) was an English philosopher, biologist, anthropologist, sociologist and prominent classical liberal political theorist of the Victorian era who wrote on a wide range of subjects including evolution, coining the phrase "survival of the fittest." This work was first published in 1862 and is reprinted from an edition of 1863.
