The author explains his life story, experiences, and the results of his forty-five years of battling addiction, anxiety, and depression. It led to him believe that drugs were the only cure for his pain, until the day he gave his life to Jesus Christ. After receiving Christ into his heart, he began a new journey of enjoying life and how to rebuild again with the ups and downs of drug and alcohol abuse.
This is a story about redemption, love, drug abuse, and pain and how people can overcome through grace and forgiveness. It gives the reader hope for the future so they don't have to go through what they went through and that they are not alone in this battle. After losing it all, he explains the steps to sober living and rebuilding his life with the help of other people and God's great love.
In his life, Gerald had the opportunity to attend schooling. His trades include meat cutting school, cosmetology college, and painting business. He currently has a passion for helping people by cutting hair for the homeless, volunteering at the rescue mission and the local YMCA, and sharing the gospel with others.

About the Author

Gerald Nelson and his twin brother Gary grew up on a farm in Crosby, North Dakota, with an alcoholic father in a dysfunctional home.
After his father’s crippling accident, Gerald and his siblings moved to a smaller town in Montana. He experienced a life-changing moment of abuse by a minister at the local church at age eight. His world went into a downward spiral with alcohol abuse and depression. During his young adult years, Gerald was sent to jail for disorderly conduct. After his release, he began experiencing with drugs and continuous alcohol abuse.
In 1979, after years of painful experiences with drug use, Gerald accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and began gathering his life together. Before long, Gerald would again battle with addiction and drug abuse. His little brother and twin brother committed suicide. Depression set in with the continuous drug use. He was later admitted to a treatment facility. He started his painting business, often volunteering at his church, upon release.
He currently resides in Billings, Montana, as a caregiver for two special people and continues to do well in his community by serving others.
Gerald is currently working with a special needs’ girl, Belle Star. He has known her since she was a baby. Belle has always been a special child. She always has a smile on her face and as much love in her heart. She competed in the Special Olympics in 2018 and was a winner at the competition. Belle wants to compete in basketball this year and Gerald is training her to win again.
Gerald has known her mother, Cristy for 20 years and helped raise her children. Cristy was in a very bad accident eighteen months ago and has overcome serious injuries. She has always been a special friend and a good mother to her children. Cristy and her children have been a huge impact in Gerald’s life.
