Ben isn't too excited about spending the summer with his grandmother at her old, rickety beach house. The doors and shutters are creaky, the lock is rusty, and the garage is covered with spider webs. But when Ben and Grandma spend a fun day at the beach, picnicking and splashing in the surf, Ben sees that he might share his grandmother's love of her summer cottage after all. Detailed watercolors bring this sweet, satisfying intergenerational story to life.

"A terrific story about place and connections across time. Readers will want to stay, smell the salt air, and learn more from Grandma."
-Kirkus Reviews

"A satisfying picture book with story-hour potential."

This is a good example of realistic fiction because it is about a boy and his grandma who go to a beach and after a storm find things that would wash up after a storm. Media: water color

Ben visits his Grandma for the summer. At first he is worried about the very old beach house they are staying at on the Oregon coast, but ends up having a lot of fun.

Harley Jessup is an amazing illustrator that will conjure up many colorful memories of special times with Grandma. The sentimental story is a classic for my family, which is why I ordered 3 books for my three girls to always have and share with their children.
