Carrie meets American Horror Story meets The Shining in this terrifying YA horror novel from the author of Tweak and Schizo.
Something’s not right in Beach Haven.
Jen Noonan’s father thinks a move to Harmony House is the key to salvation, but to everyone who has lived there before, it is a portal to pure horror.
After her alcoholic mother’s death, Jen’s father cracked. He dragged Jen to a dilapidated old manor on the shore of New Jersey to start their new lives—but Jen can tell that the place has an unhappy history. She can feel it the same way she can feel her anger flowing out of her, affecting the world in strange ways she can’t explain.
But Harmony House is more than just a creepy old estate. It’s got a chilling past—and the more Jen discovers its secrets, the more the house awakens. Visions of a strange boy who lived in the house long ago follow Jen wherever she goes, and her father’s already-fragile sanity disintegrates before her eyes. As the forces in the house join together to terrorize Jen, she must find a way to escape the past she didn’t know was haunting her—and the mysterious and terrible power she didn’t realize she had.

This novel was so bad on so many levels I wish their was a negative star rating that I could give it. I feel like this author does not have an original thought in this novel! The publisher did a fantastic job with making this novel sound pretty extraordinary....but it was not. It's like this author took some of the most popular horror stories (in novels and film) and threw in some magic that doesn't entirely make sense and thought that all this would work for a novel......it does not. For example, dad is a crazy religious guy who is to the point of abusive (Carrie's mother from the novel and movies Carrie by Stephen King). House issues (Stephen King and so many others), crazy religious figure head (so many movies and books), ghost kid who appears and saves the day but is never heard from again (again, a bunch). It's just ridiculous and does not make sense. Honestly, if this audiobook had been longer than 5 1/2 hours I would have NOT finished it. But even finishing it was painful because this novel was so awful. Just avoid!!!
This would make a great movie!! Lots of bible thumping and blood. Great combo for the big screen. Reminded me a bit of Stephen King's "Carrie" combined with "The Shining".
