THE QUEEN OF FEEL-GOOD FICTION!

'Every time you discover a new Milly book, it’s like finding a pot of gold' Heat

A heartwarming and hilarious novel from the Sunday Times bestselling author of Afternoon Tea at the Sunflower Cafe and The Queen of Wishful Thinking.

Ven, Roz, Olive and Frankie have been friends since school. They day-dreamed of glorious futures, full of riches, romance and fabulous jobs. The world would be their oyster.

Twenty-five years later, Olive cleans other people's houses to support her lazy, out-of-work husband and his ailing mother. Roz cannot show her kind, caring husband Manus any love because her philandering ex has left her trust in shreds. And she and Frankie have fallen out big time.

But Ven is determined to reunite her friends and realise the dream they had of taking a cruise before they hit forty. Before they know it, the four of them are far from home, on the high seas. Can blue skies, hot sun and sixteen days of luxury and indulgence change their outlook on life?

This book has a thing for the number four, four friends, four romances, 443 pages and four was involved in another big part of the story, which I will not reveal. It was perfectly edited and was about four childhood friends, from England going on a cruise to celebrate a 40th (a 4 again) birthday and to reconnect. I enjoyed this book very much. It was chick lit at its finest. At times it seemed a bit dated with referances to the Twilight Zone, An Officer and a Gentleman, The Love Boat ect.. But cell phones and flat screen TVs were also mentioned, so I know the book was set in a more modern era. There were lots of English words and slang, some I had no idea about. There were strange food and drinks and clothing names. A cossy is a bathing suit. Who knew? This book was very clean. It had references to sexual activities, no details though. There are lots of wineing and dining. No cursing. There are adult themes but nothing graphic. It has a very nice nice conclusion. This was not a fast read for me. It took about fourteen hours for me to get through it, which was nice. This book really held my interest. I felt very sorry for Olive, she had the husband and mother in law from hell. Some situations were a bit impropable, but interesting and entertaining none the less. There is quite a bit of that droll, dry English humor, I am starting to understand and appreciate more and more. The is a lot of mentions of English actors as well. The characters are perfection in a teapot, pour yourself a cuppa and enjoy. AD

It was good on showing women learning to be independent until a mushy ending.
