The girl next door isn’t what she seems…

Stuck spending the summer with his screwed up family, Gabriel Walker is bored out of his mind and looking for an adventure. And he seems to find it with the hot girl who lives next door. The attraction between them is instant. Electric. Soon they’re spending every stolen minute together. Talk about the perfect summer fling…

Lucy isn’t what she seems. She doesn’t live next door—she’s the girl who’s been hired to house sit for the summer. If Gabe wants to believe she’s a spoiled rich girl looking for some fun, she can go along with that. After the summer, she’ll never see him again.

They don’t count on running into each other at college. Now Lucy must keep up the pretense of being a rich girl—and it’s exhausting. She knows she’s falling in love with Gabe and she’s scared he feels the same. Will he still care about her when he discovers the truth?

I absolutely love this series. Monica Murphy is quickly becoming one of those authors who I just have to constantly check if they have anything new coming. I love her writing style and her characters. Now, for In The Dark Gabe and Lucy sure didn't waste any time, that's for sure. It was an immediate attraction from both sides. They were a perfect mixture of sweet and sexy and I really enjoyed that. I loved how Gabe constantly made her feel at ease not only with him but with herself. He made sure she knew that she was perfectly fine as she was and that he wouldn't change a thing about her- I thought that was so important because she was constantly literally measuring calories in her mind, dieting and dieting because she felt too curvy. Although things did happen pretty fast and I'm not usually a fan of that (it often feels forced or just fake) I will say that thankfully, that wasn't really the case for this book. If I put aside the fact that it all happened very quickly, I would have enjoyed the book more. I guess I'm more about the build up of things sometimes. I did really enjoy Gabe and Lucy's story and I absolutely LOVED getting constant glimpses of Shep and Jade. The whole crew was there for the most part in the second half of the book and that made me so happy. This series has a wonderful set of sassy, sexy, hilarious characters. It's easy to get lost within the pages of this book. It kind of made me wish the characters were real and they were my friends. I can't wait for Tristan's book, coming this November!! I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was excited to read this one. Gabe is a total player in the first book. Once and done. And the whole watching Shep fall for Jade - he didn't want any of that. But then he spends the summer with Lucy. It starts from him watching her and moves to him not able to resist her. They have an interesting kinda fling for the summer. But Luce is lying to him. I always struggle when a character is lying. And it was the same here. I didn't really see the need for her lying. She's not got money. She's housesitting. What will he do if he finds out? She's expecting things to be a fling anyway, I just don't get what the difference would be. I did like that she had some body image issues. He's constantly telling her how much he loves her curves but she's always trying to loose weight. That part felt real and important to me. Loved Gabe. He's fighting the falling thing tooth and nail but once he realizes that he really does want a relationship with Luce, he chases after her. And these two are hot together. Then the story shifts to be back at college and their reaction to seeing each other again was a bit surprising. I loved the way Gabe reacted not so much with Luce. The rest of the story felt just okay. A kinda perdictable issue comes up for them. I wasn't surprised at all. It did feel like something they should have to tackle based on Lucy's youth. I, also think it's what brought them finally to the same page. This is a good sequel to the first book, though I enjoyed Fair Game a lot more. I enjoyed Gabe's story even if I wasn't Lucy's biggest fan. It's great New Adult with a healthy portion of hot and sexy. If you read the first, you'll want this one too. If you enjoy the extra hot New Adult, you want this one.

4.5 stars! I'm not going to lie, this book really took me by surprise. I was expecting the tried and true struggle between people who are in financially opposite situations but Monica Murphy definitely did it differently. I wasn't surprised to see how much I enjoyed the book seeing as I read it in a handful of hours. Gabe is different when he's away from his friends. I liked this Gabe so much more than the one I met in Fair Game. He's still the bad boy, but he's different with Lucy. It's like he's growing up and wanting to be someone deserving of her. For once he's not just thinking about himself and his needs, but someone else's. I loved seeing him with Lucy. He's caring, considerate, and being a gentleman when everything in his instincts is telling him otherwise. I liked Lucy too. She's a good girl at heart. She's hard working and trying to reconcile being cautious the way her mother has always told her to be with her own desires and need to be independent. The pull between the two of them is amazing. I could almost feel the heat through my e-reader and I was so glad I had a glass of cold water near by to help. I liked seeing Gabe off his game when it came to Lucy. I think it made it easier for him to approach her and then follow along with her game plan as opposed to his. I really wondered what they were going to do once their summer fling ended and I didn't have to wonder too long. I will say I was shocked when they ran into each other again. I know it says it in the blurb but I didn't read the blurb before I started reading, so it was a good surprise. When it came to their financial situations I wasn't a huge fan of the secret Lucy was keeping from Gabe. I understand why she was so hesitant to tell him once their relationship got started, but it seemed like it should've been an issue to begin with. I got why she did it though, especially thinking their relationship was short term, but still they both could've avoided a lot of unnecessary heartache. I loved seeing Shep and Jade again. Even cranky Tristan made an appearance and I have a feeling he has some dark demons. That being said, this book wasn't as heavy on the emotions as I was expecting to be, but I still really had a great time reading it. Gabe doesn't disappoint and I'm sure you'll feel the same once you get to know him.
