The guilt of our childhood can haunt us for decades.

Twenty years ago, a childhood tragedy drove six friends apart. But when one of them is found dead in the historic, wooded ruins of the New England settlement known as Dogtown, old acquaintances find themselves drawn together.

Now they must work together to solve the meaning behind a message written in blood, a series of attacks, and the mysterious quills that seem to tie them all together. But time is quickly running out.

Indian Summer is a chilling tale of six childhood friends and the things that haunt them-both natural and otherworldly.

A good thriller, an excellent surprise I have been a fan of Aaron Manhke’s design work for a long time now, through his book covers and app icons. I also read and enjoyed his guide for freelancers (which ironically came out when I stopped being one - still, get it, it’s good). So I didn’t know what to expect, really, when I picked up “Indian Summer”. I read the book in one evening, it was quite impossible to let it go after I was started. The author has certainly learned from the master of the genre (Stephen King), and the story arc and rhythm of the book have some feel of “It” and “Dreamcatcher”... yet the writing and the plots are very original. They are built on a perfect knowledge of the region and its past, a good cast of characters and dialogs. The characters feel very real, close and personal, and my guess is that there are some traits of the author in every single one of them. Altogether I am happy to recommend this book. It was an excellent surprise: knowing other works from the author, which are clean and minimalist like the cover of the book, I didn’t expect him to have so much darkness inside to produce such an appealing thriller.

Great story with an interesting historical background. I'll definitely read Mahnke's other works after reading this one. I love his sophisticated writing style.
