About the Author

An eight-time Olympic Games medalist and an eleven-time World Championships medalist in the sport of athletics, world-class sprint athlete, author, philanthropist, UNESCO sport ambassador, and role model, Veronica Campbell-Brown is passionate about positively impacting the lives of others.
Born in rural Jamaica, she has built an impressive career dossier with various historic firsts. In 1999, she won the 100 meters at the inaugural World Youth Championships, remarkably becoming the first Jamaican to win a global 100 meters title. The following year at the Sydney Olympic Games, whilst a teenager, she won her first Olympics medal, a silver, in the 4 × 100 meters relay. That same year, she became the first female in the history of the World Junior Championships to win the sprint double in the 100 meters and 200 meters, setting championship records in capturing both events.
At the 2004 Olympic Games held in Athens, Greece, she won the 200 meters, making her the first female from the Caribbean region to win a sprint title at the Olympic Games. By virtue of winning the 100 meters title at the 2007 World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Japan, VCB won for herself a place in history as the only athlete to have won all the 100 meters titles at all levels on offer in the sport, having previously won the World Youth and World Junior to go with her World Championships victory achieved in Osaka Japan.
The year 2008 witnessed the Beijing Olympic Games, and it was there that VCB firmly etched herself among the sport greats when she again became the Olympic 200 meters champion, becoming the second female in Olympic Games history to achieve back-to-back 200 meters victories.
VCB is not only successful in outdoor athletics; she is the 2010 and 2012 60 meters World Indoor champion. Collectively, she has earned twenty-one Olympic Games and World Championships medals at the senior level and countless medals as a youth and junior athlete.
