Honest, intense, poetic, and harmonic, Jars of Clay took the Christian music world by storm with this 1995 debut and never looked back. With sonic influences as diverse as Gregorian chants, mandolin, and gothic layered vocals, JARS OF CLAY was a refreshing break from the pessimism and alterna-angst that dominated the mid-'90s music scene. Even more amazing is how well the music stands up over time. "Liquid" and "Flood," with their soaring strings and rich harmonies, are as much a revelation today as they were on first hearing. Fans have credited Jars with reinventing the acoustic guitar, and while that may be a bit of a stretch, the symphonic blend of six-string, cello, violin, and oboe in a rock song is certainly cutting-edge. Lyrically, Jars tackle such heavy subjects as child abuse and spiritual apathy, always steering clear of Christian lingo -- were it not for the title of "Love Song for a Savior," one would think it addresses an earthly lover. Their lyrical tightrope brought the band a crossover audience, but the Jars of Clay legacy runs deeper than multi-platinum sales: Dozens of post-Jars bands subsequently lightened up on the Christianese, paving the way for artists such as Third Day and Jennifer Knapp. Lisa Zhito

These guys have it all. They rock, and they still stay true to the mission behind their music: spreading Gods love. Everyone I know, from myself (I prefer hard rock and punk) to my mom (who only listens to classical) to my best friend (who mostly listens to rap) have this Jars of Clay cd as on of their favorite 3 albums of all time. They're just one of those rare bands that everyone can listen to. Thank you Jars.

This is one of the first few CDs I ever owned, back when I was like 12 or 13. My dad ordered it for me along with Newsboys-Take Me To Your Leader while joining up with the BMG music club back in the day. I always really enjoyed this album. It was a good mentally & physically relaxing CD that I often listened to after long or stressful days at school or whatever. I have liked many Jars of Clay albums since, but this is without a shadow of a doubt still my favorite album of theirs to this day. I highly recommend this CD to absolutely anyone! Below is a couple of other good albums by them (out of several), and a few other classic albums/bands that I also recommend. God bless all!

Incredible songs that are deep down and honest about emotions. I love each and every song, not just ''flood''. Flood isn't even the best song on the cd, there's so much more on there.

is the only word I can think of to describe this CD. The opening song "Liquid" is one of the most inspirational song I've heard in a while.

If you love music then this self-titled CD is for you. Jars of Clay combines music with flowing sounds of an orchestra to create a not so typical rock band sound. With the powerful lyrics of songs such as ''Flood'' and ''Liquid,'' this cd will appeal to anyone, regardless of music preference.
