It is Senior Sergeant Gordon 'Laney' Lane's last day at work before retirement. He has had a full life of watching changes occur with not only the police department, but in his life; not all of which are good. He is walking the beat he used to walk, back in the day when cops used to 'walk the beat,' in the rain, remembering his life to that point.
'Laney' has an appointment. An appointment which, to him, will right a wrong; a serious wrong. He will avenge a life lost too young, that must be done, on this his last day.

About the Author
Me – just some bits and pieces about – ME! (Or as my wife often says: “It’s all just about you Steve isn’t it?”) I’ve said, more than once, life is about the journey, and not the destination, and what a journey my life has been. We are the sum total of our experiences, and not what we eat, in my humble opinion, and when I start talking about my life to people – just before their eyes glaze over – they often say: “You should write a book.” So I have, several in fact. Thrillers and crime genres have always fascinated me, and in particular, the dark world of serial killers, and while my beginnings were in the ‘Make love not war’ sentiment, I love a good, unputdownable, thriller. You know, the kind you just want to read one more chapter of, and then another, and then you realise you are late for work. Have I succeeded in creating stories that can take people to that place? Boy I hope so. Drop me an email, and let me know if I have. Happy reading Steve

In just a few pages he covers the years that bring him up to last day. He then shows you why and how the end will come.
Really good , topical, tale. I recently read where King says he likes to write about "ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances" . That is exactly the type of story I like most - although the put it into words better than I have been ever been able to.
