In books 5-8, Jack and Annie's friend, Morgan le Fay, is in trouble! They must find four "M" things to free her from a spell. Their adventures take them to meet a ninja master in ancient Japan, flee a crocodile on the Amazon River, discover the cave people of the Ice Age, and blast off to the moon in the future. It's a difficult and dangerous mission, but Jack and Annie will do anything to save a friend!

"Osborne's narration is low-key and well-paced. A great way to introduce children who are reluctant readers or can't yet read to this highly entertaining book series and to reading in general."Chicago Parent
“Osborne's soothing, beautifully articulated voice and knack for characterization are reliably pleasing."AudioFile

Mary Pope Osborne is as fantastic as always in this group set series of her The Magic Tree House novels. The publishers however; have done a disservices by cramming volumes 1-8 onto 5 CDs, and have broken the various stories up to do so. The break ups and continuing on other discs makes it difficult to put onto an mp3 player- and makes it difficult to allow a small child to listen to one of these stories before going to bed as the breaks tend to disrupt the somnatic drift. (it woke my boys up because the story wasn't done and they noticed it was time for another disk.) We will continue to purchase this delightful series, but we will purchase the individual disks only to prevent this annoyance in the future.
My daugher and I have read the Magic Tree House story books together. The Audio CD collections are a nice addition. We listen while we are in the car. The author reads the books on the audio. She is easy to understand and has good inflection. Her portrayals of the two children's voices (Jack and Annie) are a bit too much however - Annie is particular is too cloying and high pitched for my taste. At least some of the CD sets published have two of the discs mislabled. There is a printed warning, but it does get confusing while trying to swap discs.
