You can never start too soon teaching children to pray. My daughter prayed with her sons before they were born each night. They are just babies but the tradition continues. One of the most important privileges we have is to be able to speak to our God personally and directly, anytime or any place. Too often prayer has been reduced to bedtime or even just meal time with families. Children grow up hearing the adults pray with them but are not familiar with doing it themselves. This little book is a wonderful stepping stone to showing children they can talk to God. And even more importantly speak to Him as if He were a close friend. The book contains 44 sweet prayers with scripture references. All illustrations are colorful and fun. The soft cover the book is easy to clean. Each prayer is simple and written as a child would speak. Although the book’s title says “Bedtime” prayers, they can be prayed anytime of the day. The table of contents at the front of the book is a great resource to choose a prayer meeting the needs of the moment. The questions and statements at the bottom of the pages make it personal for the child and God’s part in their life. There were only 2 things I didn’t like about the book. Part of the time God is referred to as “Dad”. While kids need to know He is their Heavenly Father, I felt Dad was too familiar and disrespectful for our Creator. Also I would prefer there weren’t the pictures of Jesus, something I don’t like in any form of drawing. No one living knows what He looked like. Presenting the pictures as His likeness I feel is not appropriate. Otherwise it is an outstanding book! I received this book from Kregel Publications in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated are my own.
My Bedtime Bible Prayers is the perfect book to help introduce children to the concept of prayer and the need for them to pray. It is filled with beautiful color illustrations, scripture references, prayers that cover 44 different subjects, and simple questions to help children think about what they have just learned. I especially like that the Bible verses are printed in a large font that will appeal to beginning readers. I would have loved this book for my daughter when she was little but I can share it with my granddaughter who is almost six years old. We will be reading it together now but soon she will be able to read it herself! I recommend My Bedtime Bible Prayers for parents, grandparents, or Sunday School teachers. You won't be disappointed! I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kregal Publications but a positive review was not required. These are my honest thoughts.
This little book will set the habit in young children's hearts and minds to turn their heart toward God in the evening (or any time) as they prepare for their evening rest. Each two-page spread has a heading - "Make A Difference," " "God Is With Us," etc. - a Bible verse, and a short prayer. Each thought appropriate to the Bible verse. Beautifully written and perfect for young minds to grasp. Allowing these young ones to absorb the right amount of information for their age. Right sized for young hands with softly padded cover and sturdy pages, and illustrated in simple pictures and blocks of text the book will appeal to the children and soon become a favorite. I highly recommend this book. Kregel children's books are always hits with me and I have never been disappointed. I jumped at the chance to be able to share this book with my grandchildren, and the youngest can hold on to it, although it says it is for children 6 to 8, some of mine are younger and are still enjoying. We read one each night, and often two, and have fun with the little tidbit at the bottom of the page, which makes them recount their day, and gives me a glimpse into what they are thinking about. The book consists of 93 pages, with pages facing each other, they have bright colors and drawings geared to youngsters, and there is a verse along with a short verse. The kids look forward to this sharing each night, and it has quickly become part of their routine. I received this book through the Publisher Kregel, and was not required to give a positive review.
My Bedtime Bible Prayers is so sweet. It teaches young readers/listeners biblical principles, such as thinking of someone other than yourself, being grateful, forgiving others, etc. The subjects are simple and brief but make an impact. They open with a title, a verse, illustrations, and a sweet, thoughtful prayer. My favorite part is the question posed at the close of each section, causing the reader to apply what he or she has learned to their everyday life. These prayers guide youngsters in biblical values, encourages them to express their hearts with God, and to make Bible reading a nightly ritual. There is a cute presentation page at the beginning of the book for gift-giving. Source: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive review.
