What songs! What a cast! What an essential recording! My Fair Lady was the 1950s Broadway hit that all other contemporary productions were measured against, and many of the reasons why can be found here. The three main leads --Rex Harrison, Julie Andrews, and Stanley Holloway, all veterans of the London cast -- were incomparable, with Harrison brilliantly turning his lack of vocal talents into a brilliant, highly personalized form of parlando. And Lerner and Loewe’s score couldn’t be bettered: "I Could Have Danced All Night,” “Rain in Spain,“ “I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face,“ "On the Street Where You Live,” “Get Me to the Church on Time,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” -- these were just some of the songs that quickly entered international consciousness to become classic standards. This new edition of the original Broadway cast recording benefits from remastered sound and the addition of some informative contributions by Frederic Loewe and Rex Harrison. My Fair Lady is a recording that no one with any feeling for splendid songcraft and the art of theatrical singing should be without.

The My Fair Lady c.d. was outrageous! The music just blew me away. Let the c.d. take you through the whole story of a cockney flower girl Eliza Doolitle, who takes lessons to be a lady with the full-of-himself Professor Henry Higgins. He has turned Eliza into a proper young lady, and soon takes her to the ball, where she is mistaken for a Hungarian Princess. Soon Eliza runs away from the Professor's house, because he seems to be ''mis-treating her.'' When Henry knows she is gone, he figures out that he has fell in love with her, and grown accustomed to her face. Finally, Eliza comes back quietly into the house, as the curtain falls. The lovely voice of Julie Andrews, with, I could of danced all night, Show me, Without you, and many more. You'll also be touched by Rex Harrison's funny, and touching songs of, I'm an ordinary man, a hymn to him, and the famous I've grown accustomed to her face. The music is just beautiful, and you will enjoy it very much. I reccomend this c.d. to you. For you will love it with all your heart.
