Close-up photographs of animal parents and their offspring underscore the many things mothers do for their children. A tender, straightforward narrative, written from a child’s perspective, lists several reasons why the speaker’s mother is “marvelous” (“She plays with me when I’m bored,/ And carries me when I’m tired,” reads the text, while a lion cub bats at its mother and a lemur carries its young on her back).
