Overview

Lucas Davenport tracks a prolific serial killer in the newest nail-biter by #1 New York Times-bestselling author John Sandford.

Clayton Deese looks like a small-time criminal, muscle for hire when his loan shark boss needs to teach someone a lesson. Now, seven months after a job that went south and landed him in jail, Deese has skipped out on bail, and the U.S. Marshals come looking for him. They don't much care about a low-level guy--it's his boss they want--but Deese might be their best chance to bring down the whole operation.

Then, they step onto a dirt trail behind Deese's rural Louisiana cabin and find a jungle full of graves.

Now Lucas Davenport is on the trail of a serial killer who has been operating for years without notice. His quarry is ruthless, and--as Davenport will come to find--full of surprises . . .

Sandford does it again. Your senses will react as if you were there instead of reading the book!

There’s just something about a John Sanford novel that makes you happy that you’re a reader. All the Prey novels are different and have a great hook to reel you in. Don’t miss this one!

This story was everything a Lucas Davenport should be; weird, funny, exciting, suitably complicated and well written.

I read a lot of crime/mystery books. and Sanford’s is always more true to life than most- from the dialogue to the bad guys to the screwups. They are easy and entertaining books and I always look forward to them. It’s a laid back style hat is entertaining and often makes me laugh. I’m a Minnesotan and I can totally relate to the dialogue , people and places.

I'm ready for the next prey book

The last couple books in both series are more about route numbers than a storyline. And there is little story.
Anonymous 6 days ago
Not Sandford's best, but well worth the read.
Anonymous 11 days ago
Seems like he is just phoning it in for the first half of the book. Plot elements are introduced and not developed, and everything seems rushed, like Sandford just wants to finish the book and collect his check. The second half is much better. The action is better developed, and one actually begins to care about the characters.

I felt the long time Lucas Davenport character was shallow. Previous books gave me a stronger image of the man, his wife Weather etc. Kinda a throwaway..

Same 3 or 4 pages from about page 165! Could not finishthe book.
