The ascent of Celtic-based folk music in Canada is probably one of the biggest left-field phenomena around, and Road Rage proves just how far it has risen. At one point, a live album of traditional Newfoundland would have consisted of impeccable musicianship and polite but relatively subdued audience response. On Road Rage, there's plenty of instrumental skill in evidence, but the reception being given by the mostly younger crowd is almost what you'd expect for the biggest stars in the land. In a way, that's exactly what Great Big Sea is -- the other artists moving tons of records are working in an international pop medium (with heavy leanings to the U.S. market), but traditional Newfoundland music is one of the few truly Canadian sounds available. When they're not cheering, the appreciative crowd sings along with almost every song like they're anthems. Musically speaking, there are not a lot of surprises here, but the band certainly has talented musicians, and if you can put up with the crowd noise it's not a bad approximation of a greatest-hits collection.

I'll admit it, I like live albums anyway, but usually I don't get a sore throat from singing along with them so much. This is probably in my car's CD player more than all my other CD's put together. If you've seen them live, you've got to have this album. If you haven't seen them live, you'll want to after you hear this! This will appeal to you if you like Irish music, Folk music, Pop music, or just generally having a good time.
As a native New Englander that moved to Las Vegas 6 years ago, it took a friend from Canada to show me this band. After hearing the first song, I was hooked and have since bought all their albums and hope to see them in concert in Vegas. By far one of the best groups I have heard. Full of energy, passion, and life.
This album is a great compilation of this bands hard work, especially during their live performances. I saw them last week in Denver (they were there for the NHL All Star Game) and couldn't believe the show. The energy they produce live is imcomparable to any other show I have ever seen. You must pick this up and give it a listen. Enjoy the by's.
This CD is the essence of Great Big Sea. Simply awesome. It's like your right there in the front row singing along with them. Feel Good Music.
If you've never seen Great Big Sea live, you must! Each show is unique, entertaining, and full of energy! This release comes closer than most live releases I've heard from other groups to capturing the essence of a live show. Great mixing, great sound, great band!
This is a high energy, fun CD that everyone will like! It's the one that got me hooked on GBS! Try it... you won't be disappointed!
Absolutly amazing. Listening to the Canadian Sound, you almost feel like your in the crowd paying homage with them to the beautiful band. Thumbs up all the way.
