Sydney and Wade start off their relationship as a sham to distract the media from scandalous rumors that Sydney is having an affair with her boss, Drew. Drew and Fable hire Sydney as their nanny and, during an unfortunate incident at dinner, Sydney leaves with Drew and the children to get the car. The press jumps all over them and decides that Drew is cheating on Fable with the "Naughty Nanny". Fable and Drew ask Wade to pretend to be in a relationship with Sydney in order to get the press to focus on them and not on Drew and Fable. Sydney and Wade reluctantly agree to the sham and find themselves liking each other. As with OWG, the feelings these two felt were at warp speed and neither one of them was really prepared for it. Sydney did confess her past troubles to Wade and he told stories of how he and Owen, Fable's younger brother, were constantly in trouble in their youth. I liked the story but would have liked a bit more of Sydney and Wade together prior to the epilogue. I was left asking a bunch of questions that weren't answered - like where Sydney was living, how Wade was doing on the team, etc.

I love contemporary romance and Monica Murphy writes some of the best. This is The Rules series book 4 and it features Wade Knox, which some may remember from the One Week Girlfriend series and Sydney Walker, which some will recognize her brother Gabe from The Rules series. We also see A LOT of Drew and Fable in this book. I absolutely love reading a book and interacting with characters from previous books. Sydney and Wade are great together. I love it when the guy is just as into the girl as she is into him and I'm not talking about for the sex alone. This book has a great story line and fantastic, well developed characters. Sexy football players around every corner at Drew and Fable's house. I can't wait to see what this author comes out with next!

I cannot express how much I love being back in Monica Murphy Land. Yes, there is a land, if you haven't experienced it yet, you're missing out BIG TIME! Safe Bet is everything wonderful wrapped up in a sweet, sexy read. Not only are Drew and Fable BACK, but Wade and Sydney take front and center with a story that is bound to captivate readers and have them glued to their pages. The pure genius of how Monica Murphy weaved the link to Drew and Fable, yet gave Wade and Sydney their own unique story is wonderful. Wade is just so flipping sweet. I'm not sure he would be deserving of anyone, and I'll be honest, at first I was really hesitant of Sydney. But I quickly found that they were both a product of their upbringings and when together they found true selves, the better versions, the more developed persons they were meant to be. To watch Sydney and Wade grow together was a touching, and sometimes very sexy, thing. I loved Safe Bet. Hands down. Need not say more. Wade and Sydney are a real deal, and I wouldn't dare bet against them. All the books in The Rules series can be read as standalones, and fans of Drew and Fable will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their return in Safe Bet. This book gave me ALL the warm fuzzies, and I can't wait for more from Ms. Murphy!

Thank you Monica Murphy! This is a great mix of two wonderful series that she has given us. I found Monica Murphy through Drew and Fable (one of my all-time favorite couples) and to get more time in their lives while experiencing Wade and Sydney’s journey was just fabulous to me. Wade has always been there supporting his best friend Owen but we didn’t really know much about him. I loved getting to know him as he moves into adulthood. Sydney is wonderful, she makes some bad choices, getting disowned by her parents which means she needs a job. The opportunity to be a nanny for Drew and Fable lands her in Wade’s orbit. When the paparazzi dub her the naughty nanny, Fable hatches a plan to have Wade and Sydney fake a relationship. But is it really fake? This is fun, flirty and sexy romance.

This is the 4th books in the Rules Series and also contains characters from The One Week Girlfriend Series. It can be read as a standalone. I read all of The Rules Series prior and after reading this I definitely need to go back and read Drew and Fable's story in The One Week Girlfriend Series! Starts out with Sydney being kicked out of her parents house so she ends up landing a job as a nanny for Drew and Fable Callahan via her brother's connections. Sydney is so nervous because she's never held a job much less as a nanny plus Drew is quarterback for the 49ers!! Sydney is just a little starstruck! Wade is teammates with Drew and best friends with Fable's brother, Owen. Drew's taken Wade under is wing so he's been spending a great deal of time at the house. All is going great until one night out at dinner paparazzi get the wrong idea and starts rumors calling her the naughty nanny and claiming that she is having an affair with Drew! Drew and Fable come up with a plan to throw off the media! Sydney and Wade just have to pretend to be a couple for only a week! What could it hurt?! Neither one of them are looking for a relationship so no worries. The chemistry between the characters is hot and the more time they spend together makes it harder for them to stay apart! Will they leave it at one week or will it lead to something more?! I loved Sydney and Wade's story and can't wait to read more by Monica! I love her writing style and how her words flow so smoothly! She is definitely one of my favorite authors! I received an early copy and voluntarily left my honest review.

Monica Murphy’s Safe Bet (after Slow Play) reads like a Young Adult novel and gives Murphy’s loyal fans an extended epilogue into the lives of the couple – Drew and Fable - that starred in the previous three books of her popular The Rules series. After nineteen-year old Sydney Walker lied about attending college, her wealthy parents cut her off financially forcing her to get a job. She’s actually never had a job before, but her brother helps her secure a position as a nanny for Drew and Fable. He’s a famous NFL player, and the paparazzi soon ignite a publicity firestorm accusing Sydney and Drew of having an affair and giving her the nickname Naughty Nanny. Fable hatches the idea for Sydney to have a brief, fake relationship with family friend and NFL rookie, Wade Knox. Their pretend affair quickly turns into a real one that involves real feelings, but both are young and in transitional periods of their life. Neither are sure they are ready for something serious. This is a fun romance; therefore, readers looking for more complexity will be disappointed with the simplicity of the story. Series fans will be delighted with the opportunity to get an update on Drew and Fable. Monica Murphy is always a winner. ARC provided by the author’s publicist, but no one made me write this review and my opinions are honest and my own.

Exhilarating! Fell in love with this funny, sweet, heartfelt Sport Romance that is full of sizzling chemistry. These characters twisted themselves around every piece of me, quickly capturing me in their clutches. They didn’t let go. I didn’t let go. I fell fast. I fell hard. I fell in love with everything. Oh did I smolder and swoon! Monica Murphy does it again with this amazing unputdownable story that felt so real. I truly felt the connection these two shared. I was rooting for them from almost the first very hot introduction. Sydney and Wade have so much sizzling chemistry you will not want this story to end. Preorder this story now because it is a SAFE BET you will love this story as much as I did. I voluntarily requested an ARC and in exchange I readily wrote an honest review.

This book was a page turner and so much fun to read. Sydney is a poor little rich girl who has been kicked out of the house by her parents and now hired as a nanny for the Callahans. She has never worked a day in her life and she is keeping secrets, who she really is and that she doesn't know what she is doing. Wade Knox is a rookie player for the 49ners and all he is really concerned with is making the team. A misunderstanding and media fallout has Sydney and Wade pretending to be a couple. Pretending when there is chemistry is not hard to do. This may be the 4th book in the series but you do not need to read the rest of the series to keep up and this can be read as a standalone. **Received a copy of this ARC for review**

3.5 stars--SAFE BET is the fourth installment in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, new adult THE RULE romance series. This is twenty two year old, NFL wide receiverWade Knox, and nineteen year old nanny Sydney Walker’s story line. SAFE BET features characters from Monica Murphy’s THE RULES and ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND (Drew and Fable) series, and can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Sydney is Gabe’s (In the Dark #2) younger sister; Wade is best friends with Fable’s brother Owen (Four Years Later-Drew and Fable). Told from dual first person perspectives (Sydney and Wade) with a couple of chapters from Fable Callahan’s POV, SAFE BET focuses on the ‘fake girlfriend’ premise following the media reports that Sydney is having an affair with her boss Drew Callahan. Weeks earlier Sydney found herself homeless and in need of a job when she lied to her millionaire parents about college-the fact that she didn’t intend to go to college at all. Fast forward and her brother Gabe finds our heroine a position as the nanny for one of the NFL’s hottest quarterbacks, but in the ensuing weeks Sydney will find herself immersed in a paparazzi scandal when images of her and Drew Callahan surface purporting the sports hero to be having a torrid affair with his live in nanny. Enter Wade Knox, the Niners’s newest recruit, and Drew’s friend, and the man who will steal our heroine’s heart. What ensues is the fake boyfriend/girlfriend arrangement that quickly turns into something more. SAFE BET is a story of family, friendship and love; a ‘one week girlfriend’ scenario that focuses on distracting the media from the lies they have propagated in the hopes of taking down a professional sports hero. The relationship between Sydney and Wade is one of immediate attraction but Sydney does not want to lose her job with an ill-timed affair with her boss’s friend. The ‘fake girlfriend’ scenario is perfect until the heart wants something more. The cross over between series brings familiarity and some backstory to fans of both THE RULES and DREW AND FABLE’S (One Week Girlfriend) series. It was wonderful to catch up with Drew and Fable, and their expanding family, as well as Owen and Chelsea, and his rising star. The premise is sweet and sexy; the romance is fated; the characters are spirited and lively. SAFE BET is a lighthearted story with passionate characters and wonderful happily ever after. There is very little external conflict affecting the couple’s relationship.

What a sweet story! I love that Murphy gives us the story from both Sydney and Wade's point of view. It really brings so much to a book when I can see how both characters are feeling. Who doesn't like a handsome football player? I was worried that Sydney would come across as a little spoiled, but she was extremely well-rounded. Murphy has this way of writing characters that draws you in and makes you root for them. I wanted Wade and Sydney to work out, especially with that instant chemistry and how sweet they were. Another excellent Monica Murphy read!

4 - "Forget the expiration date." Stars! Monica Murphy returns with the fourth book in The Rules series, this is Wade Knox’s story, this pleased me alot as I remember him well from the Drew & Fable days as Owen Maguire’s Best friend. Most people would be insulted if you used the term nice about something, but that is exactly how I would sum up Safe Bet and I really don’t mean it as an insult. Monica gave me a sweet book, with an easy-going low drama, minimal angst story-line, some great characters, and the highlight for me was getting to spend a little more time with Drew and Fable. This is the couple that I discovered this authors writing through and the One Week Girlfriend series is one I remember with great fondness. Wade Knox is a distraction I absolutely do not need. There are a huge number of film franchises out there that are having a reboot at the moment, so why not have it happen in the book world as well. Safe Bet is essentially a reboot of One Week Girlfriend granted the story is different in that Wade and Sydney’s fake relationship is for publicity purposes, but the bones of what happens between them while they are faking it are pretty much the same, however it’s a lot lighter on the drama content to what Drew and Fable went through (no complaint on that front from me!). This girl has come out of nowhere and rocked my world with a few choice words, a handful of touches and a kiss that’s making me re-evaluate every other kiss I’ve ever experienced… It doesn’t take long for both of them to realize that they want more than week pretending to be together, and I loved that Fable really got involved with the match-making between them both. "Don’t say our relationship is phony. Not right now. This, what we’re sharing right now, it’s real… You can’t deny it. I won’t deny it either." Loved this book, it was a little different to the authors previous books in the fact it was a lot lighter in its themes, but it was just great to catch up with everyone from the other series, and get a little easy-going romance thrown in for good measure along the way. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Simply amazing!! Fans of Monica Murphy will absolutely love this perfect blend of the One Week Girlfriend and The Rules series. Not only do we get more of Drew and Fable but we get to see bad boy Wade Knox taken to his knees. You can easily read this without having read the prior books and never miss a beat. When the media mistakenly turns a simple gesture of help into Drew Callahan and his nanny Sydney Walker having an affair Drew and Fable come up with a crazy plan to take the spotlight off drew. That plan has Sydney spending a lot of time with Wade Knox. Letting the public and media think they have a real relationship. Crazy right?? Not as crazy as things are about to get! Don't miss this one! I highly recommend it.

Safe Bet was a such a joy and pleasure to read. Sydney and Wade's romance is proof that history does repeat itself. And I’m so glad that it was a repeat of Drew and Fable's romantic history, but with Sydney and Wade's own beautiful twist that belongs only to their love story. Sydney has been cut off from her parent’s money after she deceives them about college. Now the somewhat little spoiled rich girl has to make her own money to support herself. This lands Sydney (with the help of her brother) a job interview for a nanny position. The parents of the two small children are none other than Fable and Drew’s. I really like Sydney. She might have never had to worry about money before, but she really is a good person. After the press misunderstand a situation with Drew and Sydney, Sydney is named Drew's Naughty Nanny. So of course, Fable comes up with the prefect plan to get the press off the lies that her and Drew's marriage is having problems. This is where Sydney and Wade pretend to be in a romantic relationship. Neither Sydney nor Wade are too happy about this arrangement, but both owe Drew and Fable a lot for helping them, so Sydney and Wade agree to do this fake relationship for Drew and Fable’s sake. And Fable might use the naughty nanny excuse, because she has a feeling that these two belong together. It was great to see Drew and Fable again, and where their story has taken them with now being a family. It was also a joy to get another beautiful take of a pretend romance that turns into love for Sydney and our sexy Wade that we have long awaited his story to find true love. Safe Bet is most definitely a must read.

I am not as familiar with Monica Murphy's The Rules series or One Week Girlfriend series as I would like to be. That's okay though because Safe Bet has a voice all it's own. Ms. Murphy took me back to a time of first love, insecurity and discovering one's place in an uncertain world. The road is hard but the reward is worth the fight. Sydney and Drew represent every person afraid to follow their dreams, every missed opportunity and every hope that something better awaits. It's easy to relate to characters that have pieces of us all written into them. Her skill at touching the heart, tickling the senses and supplying food for thought are a few of the many reasons why Monica Murphy is a regular on my favorites list.
