Preface

This handbook was developed to provide drug information to veterinary practitioners in a concise and accurate format. The drugs listed represent the most important medications used in companion animals and livestock. The indications for use and drug dosage information were developed from a review of the literature or derived from a consensus of reviews presented by clinical experts. In some cases, dosages were derived from careful clinical studies; in other cases, they represent a summary of clinical experience. Manufacturers' recommendations are considered in the dosage recommendations, but other suggestions also may be listed (i.e., off-label indications and uses)...

...Each drug is listed primarily by its official name (USAN) recognized by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP)...Each drug monograph is divided into logical sections that describe the drug's pharmacology and use, adverse effects and precautions, dosing information, considerations for patient monitoring, formulations available, and dosage.
