About the Author

Marie Rudisill is an established author with four books and hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles to her credit. She was for many years a dealer of antiques and wrote numerous articles on the subject for a variety of magazines, including Antiques. For six years she was the antiques editor at the Raleigh News and wrote a weekly column on the topic that was syndicated by the Frank Daniels chain of newspapers. In 1998 the University of Mississippi Press named Mrs. Rudisill one of the South’s top writers of Southern cookbooks. She currently lives in Hudson, Florida. James C. Simmons is the author of thirteen books and over five hundred magazine articles on travel, history, and wildlife. Raised in Cincinnati, he received his bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a doctorate in nineteenth-century British literature from the University of California at Berkeley. Before becoming a freelance writer, he taught courses on British and American literature at Boston University and San Diego State University, including seminars on Southern regional novels. His book Americans: The View from Abroad won first prize as Best Travel Book of 1990 in the Lowell Thomas Competition of Travel Journalism.
