My two children love to smell things. So I thought here's a novel idea, a Halloween picture book that has "scratch-n-sniff" sections. The story line itself is fun as the storybook kids get ready to go to a Halloween party. But the worst part for my family is that the last page wants the child to "scratch-n-sniff" a skunk. That immediately ends any desire they have to finish the book or start it again (the smell pervades even with the book closed). For parents: the smell is actually a strong garlic, but to the kids its pure "skunk". Up to that page, they liked it the book and the sniffing. But the skunk thrown in for gross factor, spoiled the entire book, at least for my two children (5 and 3). They can smell the "skunk" even from the bookshelf. They don't want to have opened. Sad.

Was so looking forward to sharing this book with my granddaughter.  I would scratch the spot.  She would scratch the spot.   Smells were very, very faint.  What you could smell wasn't good. Wouldn't you know the only one that actually smelled was the skunk on the last page and that turned my stomach.  This is the first book like this that I was disappointed with.  That's not all bad!!

This was our favorite "sniff" book so far. The scents were great (although the cookie didn't have a smell....maybe an oversight) with a nice surprise at the end of the book. My daughters, ages 3 & 6 had fun with this book. The scents are fairly strong, the story not too complex, but fun. Would love to have more things to "scratch-n-sniff", but compared to other books like this we've purchased, it was a great buy!
