Overview

Lee Morgan dreams of raising the ideal ranch horse-one that has speed, stamina, and heart. On her Texas spread near the town of Burnt Rock, the high-spirited woman heads her own horse ranch operation. It's an unusual occupation for a female in the 1870s, but as an expert horsewoman and a crack shot with a rifle, she's quite adept at taking care of herself.
Determined to gain fame for her fine horses, Lee agrees to enter her magnificent coal-black stallion in a match race, never dreaming she's about to set into motion a string of events that will threaten herself, her ranch, and her friend-town marshall, Ben Flood. As gamblers, gunslingers, and shysters descend on Burnt Rock to bet on the now-famous race, Lee comes face-to-face with sinister men who seek to destroy her plans. Her true courage and strong faith shine through when she embarks on the most thrilling ride of her life.
The first in a series of western novels, Stallions at Burnt Rock is a masterfully spun tale of a strong, virtuous heroine. It will captivate romance novel enthusiasts as well as fans of westerns and adventure.

Stallions at Burnt Rock Have you ever ridden horses through the wild west on a scorching hot day? If not, this book is for you! This book has everything from baby horses and broncoes to saloons and gunfights. The main character, Lee Morgan, a female that owns a ranch and loves horses, goes on many adventures throughout the story. She makes a race with her friend Jonas and pits her best horse Slick against one of Jonas' horses. But when something happens to Jonas, Lee is on her own to keep track of the race. I encourage anyone that hasn't set foot on the wild west to read this exciting and thrilling book by Paul Bagdon.

Waaayyy too much detail on things not even relevant to story line. Obviously written by an over zealous equine fanantic or perhaps former rodeo star. Westerns sure aint what they used to be. 1 star for being a free book.

Well written and keeps your interest. A little rushed at the end however. Great characters that seem real. Will read the next one.

This was an afternoon read of not having to really think through how the book was going to end. It was just a matter of continuing to read to find out how the author would get to the ending the reader knew would happen. When one puts a cowgirl and a cowboy together in a book, one usually knows the ending.

Lee is a strong female in a time and place where that is a tough role to carry, she does it with grace and integrity and carries the repspect of others, Good read.

Exciting, teaching, humorous, all in one!

Gets single action and double action backwards, places a rifle cartridge 30.06 decades before its invention. This book is also un readable for its lack of scene change markings. Not so much as an extra line to part one from another. Simple things.
