Overview
The soundtrack to Alex Cox's offbeat spaghetti western involving rival gangs of caffeine junkies is almost entirely artists who also appear in the film. The Pogues, who appear as McMahon Gang (in a play on their original name, Pogue Mahone) contribute five tracks, including a dance-rock version of the theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and an a cappella "Danny Boy" with Caitlan O'Riordan handling lead. Joe Strummer's "Evil Darling" is a ghostly gallop with a suitable Sergio Leone vibe to it, and "Ambush at Mystery Rock" is a breakneck instrumental. Circle Jerk Zander Schloss' "Salsa Y Ketchup" is silly and even more odd out of the context of the movie, and Pray for Rain provides two instrumentals, including "The Killers," which features a nifty martial cadence. An interesting curio, particularly for completists of the artists included, from a strange (and not very good) movie that has attained "midnight movie" status.
