The blockbuster DC Icons series that began with Leigh Bardugo's Wonder Woman, Marie Lu's Batman, and Sarah J. Maas's Catwoman continues with the story of the world's first super hero--SUPERMAN--from award-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author MATT DE LA PEÑA.

When the dawn breaks, a hero rises.

His power is beyond imagining.
Clark Kent has always been faster, stronger--better--than everyone around him. But he wasn't raised to show off, and drawing attention to himself could be dangerous. Plus, it's not like he's earned his powers . . . yet.
But power comes with a price.
Lately it's difficult to hold back and keep his heroics in the shadows. When Clark follows the sound of a girl crying, he comes across Gloria Alvarez and discovers a dark secret lurking in Smallville. Turns out, Clark's not the only one hiding something. Teaming up with his best friend, Lana Lang, he throws himself into the pursuit of the truth. What evil lies below the surface of his small town? And what will it cost Clark to learn about his past as he steps into the light to become the future Man of Steel? Because before he can save the world, he must save Smallville.

So I'll start this off by saying I've never read any comics before. But in my opinion this book was tremendous, just like all the other dc icon books this was all around terrific. Great story and plot with a terrific ending. Cannot wait to see what superhero hero will get the next book. Would recommend this to anybody and everybody.

“Life, he realized, was a profoundly complicated thing. It was filled with awe and wonder and beauty, bit it was also filled with heartbreak and loneliness. Maybe that was what made it so precious. You could never know what to expect next, or who might step into or out of your world. And the truth was that we were all navigating the mystery together. That was why it was so important for Clark to help people. Because all life, he was beginning to understand, was really one life.” I have really enjoyed reading all of the DC Icon series so far, and Superman was the one I have been looking forward to the most, as he has always been my favorite. Matt De La Pena did a fantastic job of capturing the innocent feel of Superman and Smallville, while addressing some current issues of racism. The villain of the story totally fit the comic vibe as well. Overall the book made me feel nostalgic and happy. I give this book 4.5 stars.
