Overview

The Temptations were the most commercially successful and critically lauded male vocal group of the Sixties and early Seventies. Through the years, the group's trademark razor-sharp choreography, finely tuned harmonies, and compelling vocals made them the exemplars of the Motown style. This is the frank, revealing story of the legendary supergroup, told by its founder.

I am glad that I got the chance to read the book I had very low opinions of Otis Williams after I saw the mini series. After I read the book I realize the book was written before Eddie and David passed away. If Eddie and David did not agree with the way Otis told the story they could have told there side. I am a lot younger then The Temps, but I grew up in a house with siblings there age, so I did hear a lot of stories about The Temptations as a small child. Paul was my favorite and Otis did clear a few things up concerning him. Thanks for the chance to hear about your life and your story Otis Williams.

I really enjoyed this book. This book differs from the movie in various ways. I feel as though the movie sensationalized the story. The book is a candid account in which you sense that the music and the men, 'The Temptations', were all loved by Otis Williams, whereas the movie left you with a different opinion. I would recommed this book to any Temps fan and anyone who saw the mini series especially those whom after watching it were left with a bitter view of Mr. Williams. I was born and raised in the heart of Detroit graduating from Northwestern High School (where Otis and Melvin attented). I am a very big Motown enthusiast and enjoyed the account very much.

It's nice Mr. Williams wrote a book about the group he was in. The Temptations changed the way i look at music. Their music had something that now a days you don't hear. SOUL! The Temptations should recieve much recognition. Their music brought both caucasions and african-americans together back in the day. If you saw the movie the part when they went on the Motown tour down south where segregation was still active you see how african-americans were on one side and caucasions on the other, there was a rope and cops in between seperating both. Though each side sure enjoyed their music. It should be required to be read in all music class. Whatever happened to kids knowing who Frank Sinatra was, or Johnny Cash, Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, and the Temptations. Its sad but true. Now music is just too plain. Though some singers just don't have feeling anymore. Luckily my grandmother had the oppurtunity back then to meet many motown stars including The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrel, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, and many more. The Temptations book is an awesome one to own. I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end! This is a book that I am going to let my children read when they get older. I do not understand why the book only received 4.5 stars! It touched my heart and soul! This book made me understand further that just because there is money and fame does not mean that there is 100% happiness! Life is life and you have to take the good with teh bad . . . Thank you Temptations for your hard work throughout the years! Thank you Otis Williams and Rest in Peace to all of the originals!

This book is absolutley outstanding and a must have for any Temptations fan. While the mini-series was great, this book will give you an ever deeper look into the Temptations and the many problems they faced. The story is told so well, you'll feel as if Otis Williams is actually there telling the legend of the Temptations right in front of you. The book also covers on many things that the mini-series didn't, such as the many changes in the Temptations group members, David Ruffin's and Eddie Kendrick's death, and today's present Temptations. This is the first book that I have ever read that gave me emotion, consideration, and an addictive interest. The story of the Temptations is one of the greatest ever told because it has drama, comedy, and almost anything you can think of. This is a must have for anyone interested in music.
